The FourthIndustrial Revolution (4IR) is the overarching revolution of intelligence,based on hyper-connectivity and the new paradigm of technological innovation,which leads disruptive innovation by fusing individual technologies in thefields of information and communication technology, as well as scientifictechniques. According to the findings of this paper, Daegu-Gyeongbuk regiontraditionally shows the strength in the field of physical transformationtechnology, but it is still in lowlevel of digital transformation technologyand the acceptance of the fourth industrial revolution. Particularly, accordingto the development path analysis with using regional data, the regional rate ofreturn on capital has been falling steadily over the past five years. Therefore,it is possible to confirmthe need for future innovation rather than theperformance of manufacturing innovation. Consequently, the Daegu-Gyeongbukregion must create a competitive ecosystem, strengthen the role and cooperativestructure of the private and local governments, and secure a diversetechnological basewithin the region.

4차 산업혁명은 디지털 기술로 촉발되는 초연결 기반의 지능화 혁명을 말하며, 단절된 기술 분야가 상호 융합을 통해 발전하는 기술혁신의 새 로운 패러다임을 말한다. 본 연구는 4차 산업혁명이 기업의 공정혁신으로 연결되는 경로를 검토하고, 대구경북 지역을 중심으로 혁신 역량과 발 전 수준을 비교 분석한다. 본 논문의 분석 결과에 따르면 대구경북지역의 경우 전통적으로 물리전환 기술 부문에 강점을 보이나 디지털 전환 기 술 부문과 4차 산업혁명 수용도에서 여전히 낮은 수준에 머물고 있다. 특히, 지역 자료를 이용한 발전경로 분석에 따르면 최근 5년 동안 지역의 자본수익률이 꾸준히 하락하고 있어 제조업 혁신의 성과보다는 앞으로의 혁신 필요성을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서 대구경북지역 제조업의 공정 혁신을 촉진하기 위해 지역 내 다양한 기술 기반을 확보하여 경쟁할 수 있는 생태계와 지역 간 네트워크를 조성하고 민간과 지자체의 역할과 협 력 구조를 강화할 필요가 있다.
