The concept of “gateless gate” is one of koans in Mumungwan [無門關]. Men build a gate in the void and struggle to get through the locked gate: the gate is norm, law, convention, custom. Men as social animals should pass it. The koan implies that it is useless to experience the sand-castle built in mind. Derrida’s deconstruction is as good as the koan. According to Lacan, minds are made up of others’s discourses: how can a man deconstruct the established canons? Jorge Luis Borges’s library theory says that one’s text results from others’ texts. Thus, the solid gate established by some saints seems a mirage glimmering in the distance. This could be a motive for Derrida to deconstruct the base of canons. Derrida’s différance dates back to Heraclitus’s and Lao-tzu’s maxim. This can lead to intertextuality, not fixing some authoritative ideas. In this sense, my reading of three of Yeats’s poems adds to the archive of différance. The three poems are “The Mask,” “Words,” and “The Second Coming”: the inevitability of mask in the first poem, the formula of communication as language-game applied to the second poem, and a mechanical optimism instead of the pessimistic vision as argued by most critics in the third poem are the ones my essay points to, a significant practice of différance.

“문 없는 문”은 불교의 무문관에 나오는 공안이다. 연구자는 인간들이 공연히 문을 세우고 그 인위의 문을 통과하려고 애를 쓴다고 본다. 물론 인간이 사회적 동물이기에 그럴 수밖에 없을 것이다. 전통, 관습, 규범이다 그런 것들이다. 데리 다의 해체주의도 마찬가지다. 라캉의 말에 따라, 인간이 타자의 산물인데 어떻게 타자 를 해체할 수 있단 말인가? 또 보르헤스의 말에 따라 나의 텍스트는 타자의 소산이 아니던가? 데리다가 말한 차이와 연기도 헤라클레이토스와 노자가 수 천 년 전에 이 미 말하였다. 같은 물살을 두 번 체험할 수 없다고. 또 소쉬르의 기호학의 요지도 노 자와 장자가 수 천 년 전에 도가도 비상도, 무위자연으로 이미 말하였다. 그래서 본고 에서 해체주의는 기존의 확립된 예이츠의 시 해석에 대한 새로운 의미의 생산에 일조 하려고 한다. 그것은 타자의 텍스트는 나의 텍스트이기에 타자의 텍스트를 해체한다는 말은 자기부정의 어불성설이기 때문이다. 데리다가 확립한 해체주의 또한 타자의 소산 으로 해체의 대상이 된다. 이런 점에서, 예이츠의 마스크 , 말씀 , 재림 을 분석한 결과 “마스크”의 불가피성, 언어게임으로서의 소통의 공식, 미래에 대한 비관적 전망 대신 기계적 낙관성을 진단하여 기존의 해석에 대한 [차연]을 실천해 볼 수 있다.
