The purpose of this article is to examine Song Wook’s interest in “life” in the mid- and late-stage poems from an ideological perspective and to reveal the significance of the fusion of East-West ideas that his poetics of life was aiming for. In order to overcome the vacuum of ideas that emerged in post-war Korean society, Song Wook tried to build an independent critical spirit that could harmoniously fuse the existing East-West ideas. At this time, he showed an interest in life ideas as one of the ideas that could overcome postwar ruins, and this became fullfledged through his “Comparative Study on View of Things in East and West”(1970) and “Comparative Study on View of Life in East and West”(1971). Here, Song Wook can synthesize the life idea of Yulgok Yi I, who advocated the independent role of Ki(氣) while putting the fundamental principles of the universe in Li(理), and Bergson’s idea, which viewed the evolution of life as “creative evolution” at the cosmic level. This point is actually realized through the “naked body”, which appears as the main subject in his mid- and late-stage poems. First, Song Wook tried to restore the essence of existence through the images of “Taegeuk” and “Motherhood”, while advocating his will to be born as a pure life by combining naked body and “Second Genesis”. Next, Song Wook combined naked body with dynamic images of “fire” and “fall” to express the will of continuous creation of existence. Based on this, Song Wook tried to create an alternative space and time where individual lives coexist in the entire universe. His poetics of life has important significance in that it serves as a stepping stone for establishing the theory of the existence of other-oriented and becoming on the premise of the equivalence of “body” and “language”.

이 글은 송욱의 중・후기 시에 나타난 ‘생명’에 관한 관심을 사상적인 측 면에서 살피고, 그의 생명 시학이 지향하려 했던 동서 사상 융합의 의의를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 송욱은 전후 한국사회에서 부상한 사상의 공백 문 제를 극복하기 위해 기존의 동서 사상을 조화롭게 융합할 수 있는 주체적 비평정신을 구축하고자 했다. 이때 그는 전후의 폐허의식을 타개할 수 있는 사상 중 하나로서 생명 사상에 관한 관심을 내보였는데, 이는 그의 「동서사 물관의 비교」(1970)와 「동서생명관의 비교」(1971)를 통해 본격화되었다. 여기 서 송욱은 우주의 근본원리를 이(理)에 두면서도 기(氣)의 독자적인 역할을 표방했던 성리학자 율곡 이이의 생명 사상과 생명의 진화를 우주적인 차원 의 생성 과정에 있는 ‘창조적 진화’로 본 베르그송의 생명 사상을 종합할 수 있는 생명관을 모색하고자 했다. 이런 점은 실제로 그의 중・후기 시에 서 주된 대상으로 등장하는 ‘알몸’을 통해 구현되고 있다. 먼저, 송욱은 ‘태 극’과 ‘모성’ 이미지를 통해 존재의 본질을 회복하는 한편, 알몸과 ‘제2창 세기’의 시간을 결합하여 순수한 생명으로의 탄생 의지를 표방하였으며, 다 음으로, 알몸과 ‘불꽃’, ‘폭포’의 이미지를 결합하여 존재의 지속적인 생성 의지를 표방하고자 했다. 이를 바탕으로 송욱은 개별적인 생명들이 우주 전 체 차원에서 공존하는 대안적 시공간을 창출하려고 했다. 그의 생명 시학은 이후 ‘몸’과 ‘말’의 등가성을 전제로 하여 타자 지향과 생성의 존재론을 확 립하는 데 발판이 된다는 점에서 중요한 의의를 지닌다.
