After its generation in western countries, photography was applied to clothing photography and many other fields. At end of Qing Dynasty in China, the technology and facilities for photography was imported into China and began to develop. This laid sound foundation for development of Chinese clothing photography. This article starts with the development foundation of earlier clothing photography in China, concluding absence of a clear vision on fashion industry of the time. In this sense, clothing photography is a more accurate description to photographs for clothes and costumes of the time. Most clothing photographers of the time used to be painters, reflecting styles of Chinese drawing of the time. This article includes analysis on clothing photograph analysis of, i.e.: costumes for group pictures of assemblies and figure images. The point of works is to make detailed records on figures. Secondly, equipment and technologies for photography were imported from western countries. With enlargement of photographers as amateurs and professionals, technologies began to improve and the styles began to diversify from naturalism into artistic. All these have contributed to development of clothing photographs.

서양에서 촬영기술이 탄생한 이후 패션촬영을 포함해 다양한 분야에 활용되고 있다. 청나라 말기에 촬영 기술과 장비가 국내에 속속 들어왔고, 중국 패션촬영이 발전 하면서 이후 중국 패션촬영이 발전할 수 있는 토대가 마련됐다. 이 글은 중국 초기 패 션촬영기반에 연구한다. 당시 패션산업의 발전이 불투명한 시기였기 때문에 이 시기에 는 의상과 복식에 관한 영상을 '의상촬영'이라고 정의하는 것이 더 정확하다. 초기에는 패션 사진작가들은 대부분 당시 화가들을 전업시켰고, 작품에는 전통적인 중국 회화 풍격이 반영됐다. 이 글은 당시의 패션촬영 유형을 분석하여 집회사진형의 객관적 패 션촬영, 인물사진형의 준복장촬영 등 두 가지이며, 작품 표현은 인물의 이미지를 세밀 하게 기록하는 데 중점을 두고 있다. 또한 당시의 촬영기술과 설비는 주로 서양에서 도 입되었다. 사진 애호자와 전문 사진작가의 행렬이 커지면서 촬영 기술이 향상되었고, 패션촬영의 스타일은 사실적인 스타일, 자연적인 스타일에서 점차 예술적인 스타일로 이행되어, 후속 발전을 효과적으로 모색하였다.
