This thesis attempted to study the thoughts of life contained in Jumun(呪文) of Donghak. The Jumun is a scriptural containing the truth of Mugeuk-daedo(無極大道, The Great Cosmic Way), and it is not easy to understand because it is written in the God`s Word. Donghak cannot be fully understood when viewed from the existing morality. Donghak can only be fully seen when viewed from Donghak's perspective. In this study, in order to correctly understand the doctrine of Su-un, the meaning of the Jumun was examined from the perspective of Donghak by referring to the doctrine of the 3-master doctrine such as Hae-weol, Eui-am and Chun-am The contents of the study first looked at 'the substance of The Jumun'. Donghak began when Su-un received the mind called "Osim-Jeuk-Yeosim(吾心卽汝心, My heart is Your heart)". 'Osim(吾心)' is god's heart, and 'Yeosim(汝心)' is Su-un's heart, which is human heart. And 'Jeuk(卽)' is the meaning of 'equal'. It is that the God`s heart and the human heart are not separated. Here comes the thought of In-Nae-Cheon(人乃天), 'A human is God'. This truth is contained in the 21 spells. Secondly, we found out the meaning of the Gangnyeong-Jumun(降靈呪文) and the Bon-Jumun(本呪文), dividing the words based on the contents of the Jumun explanation of Nonhagmun(論學文). It has been examined that the Gangnyeong-Jumun is a God`s Word that reveals the truth of the Heavenly Spirit Descent that the spirit extends to the universe, and the Bon-jumun is a God`s Word that reveals the fundamental truth that a person being a person. Lastly, I mentioned practice The Jumun and looked at the Way of restoring the heart of God. When asked by the disciples about “Heavenly Spirit Descent(天靈降臨)” Su-un answers “restored the heart of God,(天心回復)”. Mugeuk-daedo is a way to restore the heart of God, and he declares that if a person cultivate oneself spiritually not only Su-un himself, but anyone, he can restore the heart of God. Su-un said that the cultivators have reality and those who only listen are in vain. In other words, those who study only in philosophy and do not practice The Jumun cannot fully know Donghak. It would not be easy to understand if the meaning of the spell was explained in writing only, so to aid understanding, the pictures of the “Naeyusillyeong-Oeyugihwa(內有神靈外有氣化) concept diagram” and the “Si-Jeong-Ji(侍定知) concept diagram” were attained together.

이 논문은 동학의 주문에 담겨있는 생명 사상을 연구해 보고자 하였다. 주문은 무극대도의 진리를 담고 있는 경문이고 神人의 글이다 보니 이해하기 쉽지 않다. 동학은 기존 도덕으로 바라보면 온전히 알 수 없다. 동학은 동학의 시각으로 보아야 비로소 온전히 볼 수 있을 것이다. 이번 연구는 수운의 교설을 바르게 알기 위해 해월 의암 춘암 등 3분 교조의 교설을 참고하여 동학의 시각으로 주문의 뜻을 살펴보았다. 연구 내용은 먼저 ‘주문의 대의’에 대해서 살펴보았다. 수운이 ‘吾心卽汝心’이라는 심법을 받으면서부터 동학은 시작되었다. ‘吾心’은 천심이고 ‘汝心’은 수운의 마음으로 인심이다. 그리고 ‘卽’은 ‘equal’의 의미이다. 천심과 인심은 둘이 아니라는 것이다. 여기에서 ‘사람이 곧 한울님’이라는 인내천사상이 나온다. 이러한 진리가 주문 21자에 담겨있다. 두 번째로 「논학문」 주문해석 내용을 기준으로 어절을 나누어 강령 주문과 본 주문의 의미를 알아보았다. ‘강령 주문’은 허령이 기화하여 우주에 뻗쳐 있다는 강령의 진리를 밝혀 놓은 천서이고, ‘본 주문’은 사람이 사람 된 근본 진리를 밝혀 놓은 천서임을 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 주문 수련에 대해서 언급하고 천심 회복의 도에 대해서 살펴보았다. 제자들의 ‘天靈降臨’에 대한 질문에 수운은 ‘天心回復’으로 대답한다. 무극대도는 천심을 회복하는 도이고, 수운 자신뿐만 아니라 누구든지 닦기만 하면 천심을 회복할 수 있다고 언명한다. 수운은 닦는 사람은 실제가 있고 듣기만 한 사람은 헛되다고 하였다. 즉, 철학으로만 연구하고 주문 수련을 하지 않는 사람은 온전히 동학을 알 수 없다는 뜻이다. 주문의 뜻을 글로만 설명하면 이해하기 쉽지 않겠기에 이해를 돕기 위하여 ‘내유신령 외유기화도’와 ‘시정지 개념도’를 함께 올렸다.
