This study attempted to measure the chronological date of Unified Silla Roof-end tile(male; 圓瓦當) excavated from Gyeongju focusing on the pattern and joining technique, and to identify the transition of patterns and joining techniques, the supply and demand relationship between production site and supply site, and changes in capital city. The attributes of Unified Silla Roof-end tile were divided into production attributes and pattern attributes for review, and in the result of setting each format and arranging attributes, it was assumed that the joining technique of the production attribute, the ovary of the pattern attribute, and cotyledon reflect the temporality. It was divided into three stages, and changes to ‘ㄷ’, ‘ㄴ’, and ‘ㅣ’ letters were found, centering on the joining technique. Through the joining technique of the Roof-end tile(female; 平瓦當) joined with the female roofing tile, which is considered to be the symbolic pattern of “Seupbu(習部)” and “Hanjibeolbu(漢只伐部)”, which are currently excavated around Wolseong(月城) and Donggung(東宮), in the second half of the seventh century, it was confirmed that each group shared excellent skills with each other. From the chronology of this article, over time, the deterioration of the composition of the Roof-end tile pattern was occurring.

필자는 이번 연구에서 경주지역 출토 통일신라 수막새의 문양과 접합기법을 중심으로 편년을 시도하였다, 이와 더불어 문양과 접합기법의 변천, 생산지와 공급지의 수급관계를 살펴보고자 고찰하였다. 먼저 통일신라 수막새의 속성을 접합기법과 문양으로 나누어 검토하였으며, 그에 따른 각 형식을 설정하 고 속성배열을 실시한 결과 접합기법, 문양의 자방, 자엽 등이 시간성을 반영하는 것으로 상정하였다. 통일신라 수막새의 편년을 총 3단계로 구분하였으며, 수키와 하단부를 수막새 배면에 접합하는 기법이 ‘ㄷ’, ‘ㄴ’, ‘ㅣ’형태로 변화한 것으로 판단하였다. 현재 월성과 동궁 주변을 중심으로 출토되는 ｢習部｣와 ｢漢 只伐部｣의 상징적인 문양이 타날된 암키와와 접합된 암막새의 접합기법을 통해 7세기 후반 각 집단은 서로 뛰어난 기술을 공유하였던 것으로 생각된다. 그리고 시간의 흐름에 따라 수막새 문양 구성의 퇴화 양상이 확인되었다.
