The main purpose of this essay is to examine the acceptance patterns of scholars in the Joseon Dynasty about the differences between Cheng-Zi’s commentary and Zhu-Zi’s one on the Book of Songs. There is a common denominator from the perspective of Neo-Confucianism, and at the same time there is a clear difference in detailed views between these two commentaries. In order to effectively discriminate the differences between Cheng-Zi and Zhu-Zi’s commentary on the Book of Songs, this paper intensively reviews the part where Zhu-Zi commented on Cheng-Zi’s view on the Book of Songs in the Conversations of Zhu-Zi Arranged Topically(朱子語類), and investigates Korean scholars’ approach and views on the related matters. Through the research, it is confirmed that the acceptance of Cheng-Zi’s commentary in the Joseon Dynasty shows various aspects. It has been reviewed and accepted as the one of Neo-Confucianistic commentaries. Sometimes, it was criticized for its distinctive character from Zhu-Zi’s commentary. Sometimes, it was also applied to the establishment of an different theory. We can assure that Cheng-Zi’s commentary on the Book of Songs played an effective role in expanding the space of interpretation and opening up the possibility of new interpretation and construction of a commentary on the Book of Songs in the Chosun Dynasty, based on the acceptance and examination of Zhu-Zi’s commentary. The study of the antagonistic relationship Cheng-Zi’s commentary and Zhu-Zi’s commentary is an effective approach, not only in understanding the various layers inherent in the study of Neo-Confucianists in the Chosun Dynasty, but also in understanding how to use Neo-Confucianists’ commentaries on the Book of Songs to build a new interpretation in the Chosun Dynasty under a strong influence of Neo-Confucism.

본 논문은 주자 『시』설과 정자 『시』설의 차이에 대한 조선시대 학자들의 수용 양상을 검토하는 데 주요 목적이 있다. 주자설과 정자설 사이에는 성리학적 각도에서의 『시경』 접근이라는 공통분모를 지님과 동시에 세부 견해에서 선명한 차이가 존재한다. 이들의 동이점을 효과적으로 변별하기 위해, 본고에서는 『주자어류』에서 주자가 이정 『시』설을 논평한 부분을 집중적으로 고찰하고, 정자 『시』설을 인용⋅참고⋅활용한 조선시대 학자들의 사례를 조사하여 그들의 접근 태도와 견해를 고찰하였다. 연구를 통해 조선시대 정자 시경학의 수용이 다양한 양상을 보임을 확인하였다. 성리학적 『시경』 읽기나 『시집전』 읽기로 검토⋅수용되기도 하였고, 주자 『시』설과의 차이점이 부각되어 비판되기도 하였으며, 자신의 독자적인 『시』설 체계를 구축하는 데 활용되기도 하였다. 정자 『시』설은, 조선시대 학자들이 주자 시경학에 대한 수용과 검토를 동반하는 가운데, 조선시대 시경학의 주자 시경학에 대한 이해의 깊이를 가늠하고 도학적 『시경』 해석 공간의 폭을 넓히며 새로운 『시경』 해석과 구도 구축의 가능성을 열어가는 데 유효한 작용을 하였음을 살필 수 있었다. 주자 시경학과 이정 시경학의 길항 관계에 대한 고찰은 조선시대 성리학자들의 시경학에 내재하는 다양한 층차를 이해하는 데뿐만 아니라 성리학적 경학 풍토가 강한 조선시대의 경학연구에서 기존 성리학자의 『시경』설을 어떻게 새롭게 활용하는가를 살피는 데 있어서도 유용한 접근이라 생각된다.
