This study aims to examine one aspect of the national publishing project in terms of proofreading by introducing laws on publishing in the late Joseon Dynasty and cases of awards and punishments for correction officers. Among the regulations related to publication, penalty clauses were made first in Later Supplement to the Great Code in 1543, and contents about rewards was added later in 1785 in Comprehensive Great Code, the publication regulations became intact. The penalty rules in Later Supplement to the Great Code were defined in the form of flogging, dismissal, or salary reduction by checking the print status, such as the number of typos and omissions in the printed materials. Since then, flogging has disappeared in Comprehensive Great Code, and the permissible range of typos and omissions have increased from one to three per volum, and the penalty clause, which was specific in the “Later Supplement to the Great Code” has been changed to “punishment.” According to the regulations, horses, leather, medicines, and luxury goods were awarded differently depending on their status and merit to civil officials who participated as director of proofreading and director of printing, and also the rewards were carried out by raising the rank of officials or offering government posts.

본 연구는 인쇄와 관련한 법률의 규정과 이 규정이 적용된 賞․罰 사례를 소개함으로써, 교정의 측면에서 국가 간역사업의 일면을 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 인쇄와 관련한 규정은 1543년 ｢대전후속록｣에서 벌칙조항이 먼저 만들어지고, 1785년 ｢대전통편｣에서 포상의 내용이 추가되면서 온전한 모습을 갖추게 되었다. ｢대전후속록｣의 벌칙 규정은 인쇄물의 오탈자 수와 인쇄상태를 점검하여 笞를 맞거나 罷黜, 減俸의 형태로 규정되었다. 이후 ｢대전통편｣에서는 笞가 없어지고, 오탈자 수의 허용 범위도 권 당 1자에서 3자로 늘어났으며, 이외 ｢대전후속록｣에서 구체적이었던 벌칙조항이 ‘論罰’로 바뀌었다. 포상의 규정은 대체로 교정당상과 감인당상으로 참여하는 문신들에게는 신분과 공적에 따라 말, 가죽, 약품 및 사치품 등이 차등적으로 하사되었고, 신분상으로는 품계를 올려주거나 벼슬을 제수하는 방식으로 이루어졌다. 낭청 이하 장인들에는 생필품 위주의 물품이 하사되었다.
