The purpose of this study is to investigate the interrelationship between the density of child hospitals and fertility rates by region, and to present the determinants and policy implications of childbirth to overcome the problem of low birth rate in Korea. To carry out the study, the relationship between the maternity-related variables and the distribution of children's hospitals, the status of children's hospital users, and the needs and expectations of children's hospitals were investigated and analyzed. As a result, the higher the density of children's hospitals in the region, the greater the number of births and population. In addition, although the number of patients who used children's hospitals for the last 5 years has gradually decreased as the population decreases, it has been confirmed that young children are still highly dependent on hospitals compared to other age groups. Analysis of children's hospital related persons also proved that both medical staff and parents regard children's hospitals as important places responsible for child rearing and future. The results of this study suggest that the central role and authority of the Children's Hospital (Pediatrics and Adolescents Department) is needed to help child-raising difficulties and take responsibility for health in a way that can escape from the confines of low birthrate.

본 연구의 목적은 지역별 아동병원 밀집도와 출산율의 상호연관성을 조사하여 우리나라의 저출 산 문제 극복을 위한 출산의지 요인과 정책적 함의를 제시하는 데 있다. 연구 수행을 위해 출산관 련 변인, 아동병원 분포도, 아동병원 이용자 현황, 아동병원 관련자 요구 및 기대를 조사하고 분석 하였다. 그 결과 아동병원은 밀집도가 높을수록 출생아수와 인구수에서 높은 정적 상관관계를 이루 고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 최근 5년 간 아동병원을 이용한 환자 수는 인구감소에 따라 점차 감 소되고 있지만, 다른 연령대에 비해 어린 아동이 병원의존도가 여전히 높음을 확인하였다. 아동병원 관련자 분석에서는 의료진과 부모 모두 아동이 성장하고 발달하는 데 아동병원은 꼭 필요한 곳으 로, 문을 닫는 경우가 없도록 국가적 차원에서 지원되고 보호되어야 한다는 목소리도 확인되었다. 이 연구 결과는 육아의 어려움을 해결하고 아동의 건강을 책임지는 아동병원(소아청소년과)의 중추 적 역할과 권한이 필요함을 시사한다.
