The purpose of this study was to examine gambling experience and a level of gambling behaviors among soldiers in the military service, and to investigate the effects of individual, family, and social-environment factors on gambling behaviors of soldiers in the military service. Study sample consisted of enlisted soldiers excluding professional soldiers, and was recruited by a convenience sampling method. Data of 294 study participants, which were collected through an online survey, were analyzed. Study results demonstrate that approximately 68.4% of study participants had gambling experience, and the prevalence of gambling addiction including moderate-risk gambling group and problematic gambling group was 13.6%. Also, the results of a hierarchical regression analysis show that gambling-related cognition as an individual factor and gambling accessibility as a social-environment factor positively affected gambling behaviors of soldiers in the military service. In other words, a higher level of gambling-related cognitive distortion and a higher level of gambling accessibility were associated with a higher level of gambling problem among soldiers in the military service. Based on those results, this study discussed social welfare implications for the prevention of gambling problem and early intervention for soldiers in the military service.

본 연구는 현역병사의 도박경험 및 도박행동 수준을 살펴보고, 이들의 도박행동에 영향을 미치는 개인요 인, 가족요인, 사회환경요인을 검증하는데 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 직업군인을 제외한 의무복무 중인 현역 병사로, 온라인 설문조사를 통해 편의표집하였으며 총 294부가 분석에 사용되었다. 분석결과, 연구참여자의 약 68.4%는 도박경험이 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 중위험성 도박군과 문제성 도박군을 포함한 병사의 도박 중독 유병율은 약 13.6%로 나타났다. 또한, 위계적 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 개인요인인 도박인지와 사회환 경요인인 도박접근성은 현역병사의 도박행동에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타나 도박에 대한 인지적 왜곡이 클수록, 도박접근성이 높을수록 병사의 도박문제 수준이 심각한 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 연구결 과를 바탕으로, 본 연구는 현역병사의 도박문제 예방 및 조기개입을 위한 사회복지적 함의를 논의하였다.
