This study explores the effect of long-term care insurance on total suicide rates and suicide rates under 65 years old in local governments. For the analysis, total suicide rates and suicides rates under 65 years old at local government levels is considered as dependant variables, and index on long-term care insurance is considered as the explanatory variable in 226 local governments from 2010 to 2017. In the results, the proportion of elderly long-term care recipients, the proportion of long-term insurance service providers, and National Health Insurance Service's share in expenses per capita have negative relationships with total suicide rates and suicide rates under 65 years old. Based on the results, we suggest policy alternatives to decrease total suicide rates and suicide rates under 65 years old in local governments.

이 연구는 노인장기요양보험제도의 효과성을 검증하기 노인장기요양보험제도의 시행이 지역자살률에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 226개 기초자치단체의 2010년부터 2017년까지 8 년간의 노인장기요양보험제도의 측정 가능한 실적을 독립변수로, 전체자살률과 65세 미만 자살률을 종속변수로 설정하고, 통제변수로 수집 가능한 자살률에 영향을 미치는 변수들 을 고려하였다. 분석 결과, 노인장기요양급여 이용수급자 비율, 제공기관 비율, 노인 1인당 공단부담금은 각각 기초자치단체의 전체자살률과 65세 미만 자살률을 통계적으로 유의한 수준에서 낮추는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 노인장기요양보험제도가 지역사회 자살률 감소와 65세 미만 자살률 감소에 긍정적 요인으로 작용함을 알 수 있다.
