The purpose of this study is to investigate the experience in parent counseling of music therapists. For this purpose, the researcher conducted in-depth interviews with eight music therapists with experience in parent counseling and derived results using consensual qualitative research methods. As a result, four domains: ‘the purpose and content of parent counseling,’ ‘the difficulties in parent counseling,’ ‘the efforts to resolve the difficulties of parent counseling’ and ‘the achievement of parent counseling,’ and 15 categories were shown by the experience of the music therapists in parent counseling. Music therapists experience difficulties due to parents’ defensive behaviors, different values of parents and therapists, and institution management methods, but attempt to overcome the difficulties by building an amicable relationship with parents. Through parent counseling, music therapists also broadened their understanding of the client and noticed a change in parenting attitudes. This study has significance because it provides an overall understanding of the difficulties experienced by music therapists in parent counseling, their efforts to overcome the difficulties, and the achievements of parent counseling in music therapy. Also, the study provides basic materials for the education of parent counseling necessary for music therapists and preliminary music therapists.

본 연구는 음악치료사의 부모상담 경험을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 연구자는 음악치료 부모상담 경험을 가진 음악치료사 8명을 대상으로 심층면담을 진행한 뒤 합의적 질적 연구 방법으로 분석하여 결과를 도출하였다. 그 결과 ‘부모상담의 목적과 내용,’ ‘부모상담에서의 어려움,’ ‘부모상담의 어려움 해소를 위한 노력,’ 그리고 ‘부모상담의 성과’ 총 4개의 영역과 15개의 범주가 음악치료 부모상담에서 음악치료사의 경험 으로 나타났다. 음악치료사들은 부모의 방어적 태도, 치료사와 다른 가치관, 기관의 운영방식으로 인해 어려 움을 경험하지만 부모와 원만한 관계를 형성하며 이러한 어려움을 극복하려 노력하였다. 또한 부모상담을 통해 내담자에 대한 이해를 확장할 수 있었고, 부모의 양육태도 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 이 연구는 음악치 료사의 부모상담에서 경험하는 어려움과, 이를 극복하기 위한 노력, 그리고 음악치료 부모상담의 성과에 대한 전반적인 이해를 제공하는 것에 의의가 있으며, 음악치료사와 예비 음악치료사들에게 필요한 부모상담 교육의 기초자료로 제공하고자 한다.
