John Dewey’s epistemological understanding of the concept of ‘experience’ in education causes critical problem by rejecting absolute truth. Dewey’s epistemological understanding of truth and knowledge is based on the concept he termed ‘experience’ that gives students authority, construct of their own meaning, based on their impulses and capabilities, over their learning. This concept is relativistic, subjective, founded on secularism, pragmatism, evolutionary naturalism, humanism, and contradicts epistemological biblical truth. However, God is the only absolute and universal truth that revealed through Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, and Scripture. This research criticizes Dewey’s fallacy of an epistemological idea of ‘experience’ and affirms biblical truth and biblical epistemology, including the biblical understanding of ‘experience’ for the church and Christian education based on the argument that only absolute truth comes from incarnated Jesus Christ, the Scripture and the Holy Spirit.

가장 미국적인 철학자이자 미국 교육 사상 및 기독교 교육에 영향을 미친 교육학자 존 듀이가 주창했던 교육 내의 ‘경험’ 개념을 기독교 인식론의 관점을 통해 연구 및 비판적 고찰을 시도한다. 존 듀이는 인식론에서 진리란 존재하지 않으며 각 개인이 경험을 통해 자기 스스로 의미를 재구성하며 진리를 이해 및 습득할 수 있는 능력이 인간 본성에 내재화되어 있다고 주장하였다. 기독교적 인식론은 창조주 하나님과 길과 진리요 생명이신 예수 그리스도, 진리의 빛을 비추시며 인도하시는 성령님과 성경에 참 진리와 지식이 있으며 이를 통해서만 오직 진리를 경험할 수 있음을 논증한다. 특별히 기독교 교육의 이해 및 적용에서 존 듀이의 ‘경험’ 개념을 어떻게 이해하고 해석하며 비판적으로 판단할 것인지를 이 연구 논문을 통해 수행하고자 한다.
