This article aims to reveal the cinematic writing and dialogism shown in “Stranger than Paradise” by Lee Jangwook, a writer who continues his active literary career in poetry, fiction, and criticism. In this novel, using the motif of the film has an indivisible affinity with Mikhail Bakhtin’s dialogism because it borrows the genre, narrative, and technology of the film as a metaphor for borrowing a dialogistic perspective. Furthermore, intertextuality is also revealed as an ideological form that enriches the text, rather than as a simple reference. As a Russian literature major, the literary and political aim of the writer Lee Jangwook clearly resonates with cinematic motif. In this article, as a reference of intertextuality, the novel covers three different cinematic subjects. In chapter 2, A French art film movement Nouvelle Vague was treated as a metaphor of realistic irony. In chapter 3, a movie “Rashomon” was reviewed to explain alterity and ethics in this novel. Lastly, Kino-eye, a concept of Dziga Vertov, was covered to clarity a dialogic perspective in chapter 4.

이 글은 시, 소설, 비평에서 활발한 문학 활동을 지속해나가는 작가 이장 욱의 『천국보다 낯선』에 나타난 영화적 글쓰기와 대화주의를 밝혀내는 것 을 목표로 한다. 이 소설에서 영화의 모티프를 활용한 글쓰기는 미하일 바 흐친(Mikhail Bakhtin)의 대화주의와 공명하는 정치성을 지닌다. 작가 이장욱이 대화주의적인 사유를 드러내기 위한 하나의 은유로 영화의 장르・서사・기 술 등을 차용하고 있기 때문이다. 더 나아가 이러한 상호텍스트성은 단순한 참조가 아닌, 텍스트를 풍부하게 하는 이데올로기적 형식으로 드러나기도 한다. 러시아문학 전공자로서 이장욱이라는 작가가 가지는 문학적 정치성 이 해당 소설과 공명하는 지점이 비교적 선명하고 이를 위한 은유로 영화적 모티프가 등장한다는 점에 있어서, 본고는 그동안 작가의 시 작품보다는 주 목받지 못했던 장편소설인 『천국보다 낯선』을 대상 텍스트로 제시하였다. 본론에서는 리얼리즘적 아이러니를 보여주는 사유를 나타내기 위해 누벨바 그(Nouvelle Vague)라는 영화 장르를(2장), 다성악적 대화와 타자성을 사유하기 위해 영화 <라쇼몽(Rashomon)>을(3장), 복수언어 사이의 간극을 사유하기 위 해 키노-아이(Kino-eye)라는 영화 용어를(4장) 들여와 이장욱의 소설에 나타 난 대화주의와 영화적 글쓰기의 공명을 함께 살펴보고자 한다.
