This thesis is a study on the series of novels Living People, a series of novels by Jang Kang-Myung, which very realistically reveals the portrait and shadow of Phono Sapiens, who formed a digital new civilization. The artist deals with the scenes of people living in the era of convenience and convenience, and the portraits of people living in those scenes in a very realistic and problematic manner. These include daily workers, young job seekers, contract workers, part-time students, and small self-employed people who are hidden behind the illusion of Phono Sapiens. The artist showed their lives as low-ranking workers as a result of the fantasy created by the myth of Phonosapiens. The myths created at this time are the myth of the digital revolution, the myth of capitalism, and the myth of success. However, what these myths and fantasies have created are only the reality of failures, value conduction, and passionate exploitation. The outstanding reflection of the artist is that it shows the responses and reactions to the times and society most delicately and thoroughly, not unilateral conformity or rejection. It lies in that it is not desperate while criticizing reality, and thus opening up new reality and potential for the future.

이 논문은 디지털 신문명을 이룬 포노 사피엔스의 초상과 그늘을 매우 현실적으로 드러낸 장강명 연작 소설집 산 자들에 대한 연구다. 작가는 편의와 편리의 시대를 살아가는 사람들의 현장, 그리고 그 현장을 살아가는 사람들의 초상을 매우 현실적이면서도 문제적으로 다루었다. 포노 사피엔스의 환상 뒤에 가려진 일용직 노동자, 청년 구직자, 계약직 노동자, 아르바이트 학생, 영세 자영업자 등이 그들이다. 작가는 하급 노동자들로서의 이들의 삶을 포노 사피엔스의 신화가 만들어낸 환상 속에서 나타난 결과물로 보여주었다. 이때 만들어진 신화는 디지털 혁명의 신화, 자본주의 신화, 성공에의 신화다. 그러나 이러한 신화와 환상이 만들어낸 것은 실패자, 가치 전도, 열정 착취의 현실일 뿐이다. 작가의 이러한 성찰이 돋보이는 것은 시대와 사회에 대한 응답과 반응을 가장 섬세하고도 철저하게 보여준다는 점, 일방적인 순응, 혹은 거부가 아니라, 그 사회 ‘안’에 있으면서도 ‘밖’의 가능성을 탐색한다는 점, 현실을 비판하면서도 절망하지 않는다는 점, 그리하여 새로운 현실과 미래의 가능성을 열어두고 있다는 점에 있다.
