The purpose of this study was to examine how much did Bok Ji-kyom(卜智謙) and Park Sul-hee(朴述希), generals from Dangjin County in the middle of the West Sea, contributed to the foundation of Koryŏ dynasty during the period of late Silla and early Koryŏ dynasty. In 9th century, independent maritime powers formed the powerful political forces on the western and southeast coasts of the Korean Peninsula. King Wang Geon(王建), the founder of Koryŏ dynasty and King Gyeon Hwon(甄萱), the founder of Hubaekje dynasty, were also members of these powers. General Bok and Park were the same. General Bok expelled King Gung Ye(弓裔) by court coup and elected General Wang as new king. He also contributed greatly to the consolidation of early Koryŏ dynasty suppressing the anti-Wang coups. General Park helped King Wang Geon and contributed to the victory in the war against Hubaekje dynasty. Also, he recommended Wang Mu(王武), the eldest son of King Wang Geon, as the heir to the throne. Prince Wang Mu was crowned the second King Hyejong(惠宗). However, the royal maternal relatives threatened King Hyejong's throne. He caught in fear of assassination and died after 2 years of reign. General Park was also killed. General Bok and Park from Dangjin County contributed greatly to the foundation and government of the early Koryŏ dynasty. However, General Park failed to accomplish political stabilization.

이 글의 목적은 나말여초 서해 중부 해상세력 중 당진 지역의 정치적 성격을 검 토하려는 것이다. 그 사례로서 당진인 복지겸과 박술희가 고려의 건국과 치국에 어 떤 기여를 했는지 검토하였다. 9세기에 한반도의 서해안과 동남해안 일대에는 독립 적인 해상세력이 성장해 호족화되었다. 고려의 건국자 왕건, 후백제의 건국자 견훤 도 그 일원이었다. 당진인 복지겸과 박술희는 서해 해상세력의 일원이다. 복지겸은 궁정쿠데타를 일으켜 궁예를 축출하고 왕건을 추대했다. 또한 반왕건 쿠데타를 조기 에 탐지, 저지함으로써 고려왕조 초기의 정치적 안정에 크게 기여했다. 박술희는 후 백제와의 통일전쟁에서 무장으로서 크게 활약했고, 정치가로서도 막중한 역할을 담 당했다. 그는 왕건의 장자 왕무를 태자로 천거하여, 제2대 혜종에 즉위시켰다. 그러 나 혜종의 왕권을 위협하는 호족 외척세력 왕규를 제거하는 데는 실패했다. 그 결과 고려왕조 초기에 심각한 정치적 불안정이 초래되었다.
