Interdisciplinary collaboration is the process of experts in different fields cooperating to achieve goals that an expert in a single field would have difficulties achieving. Interdisciplinary collaboration in the correctional field refers to social workers, correctional officers, and experts in related fields working together in the decision-making processes by planning and performing, sharing responsibilities for problem-solving, and making official decisions together. While interdisciplinary collaboration in correctional settings and social welfare practices are high in their applicability based on their characteristics, studies on this field did not exist. This study aimed to apply interdisciplinary collaboration in the role of social workers for prisoner reformation. It discussed the appropriateness and application of interdisciplinary collaboration in correctional settings, the ecosystem of correctional social work, and social workers' roles under the combination of ecosystem theory and interdisciplinary collaboration. The main findings were as follows. First, the appropriateness of applying interdisciplinary collaboration was supported by the characteristics of social welfare and the uniqueness of on-site correctional social welfare. This study found that social workers must work under the principles of harmony, balance, and respect for other experts in interdisciplinary collaboration. Second, regarding the ecosystem of correctional social work, depending on the system's level, the paper suggested details based on the environment surrounding the inmate. Third, in interdisciplinary collaboration, social workers must perform fundamental supporting roles of the microsystem such as the clinical study conductor, counselor, and case manager, as well as take on the role of a broker and networking professional, mediator, and educator. Finally, the study proposed the institutionalization of correctional social workers and activities that social welfare organizations can conduct as a response to interdisciplinary collaboration in correctional settings.
