This study analyzes general citizens' awareness of the causes of crimes in multicultural society, and measures to respond to xenophobia against multicultural people, and provides a desirable multicultural society through policy suggestions that can alleviate or resolve the phenomenon of xenophobia toward multicultural people. This study conducted both literature and empirical studies to examine the factors influencing xenophobia in a multicultural society. To conduct empirical research, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 443 men and women in their 20s or older living in Seoul through a self-evaluation method. Meanwhile, the collected data of this study were analyzed using the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) WIN 25.0 program. Based on the research results, policy suggestions to alleviate xenophobia toward multicultural people are as follows. First, the establishment of institutional policies through the enactment and amendment of related laws. The second is to create a climate that respects human rights for multicultural people and strengthen the role of the mass media.

본 연구는 일반 시민들의 다문화사회의 범죄발생 원인에 대한 인식, 다문화인에 대한 제노포비아 대응방안 등을 분석하여 다문화인에 대한 제노포비아 현상을 완화 내지는 해 소시킬 수 있는 정책적인 제언을 통해 바람직한 다문화사회를 정립함에 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 다문화사회 제노포비아 영향요인을 고찰하기 위해 문헌연구와 실증연구를 병행하 였다. 실증적인 연구수행을 위해 서울시에 거주하는 20대 이상 성인 남녀 443명을 대상으 로 자기평가 기입법을 통한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 한편, 본 연구의 수집된 자료는 SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science) WIN 25.0 프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 다문화인에 대한 제노포비아를 완 화시킬 수 있는 정책 제언을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 관련법 제·개정 통한 제도적 정책 마련이다. 둘째, 다문화인 인권존중 풍토 조성 및 대중매체 역할 강화이다.
