This study examined the differences in parental support, children’s peer relationship, school adjustment, and life satisfaction according to the multicultural families’ background characteristics, and verify the mediating effect of peer relationship and school adjustment in the relationship between parental support and children’s life satisfaction. The 7th data of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study(MAPS) surveyed by the National Youth Policy Institute was analyzed in this study. The results showed that the correlations of the variables were significantly associated with each other. The parental support differed according to their fathers’ academic background, mothers’ occupation and nationality. Peer relationship was different depending on foreign parents’ level of Korean language proficiency. School adjustment was different depending on parental educational background and mothers’ occupation. In addition, children’s life satisfaction was statistically different depending on their fathers’ educational background. Parental support had a positive effect on their children’s peer relationship, school adjustment, and life satisfaction. Moreover, peer relationship had positive effects on school adjustment and life satisfaction, whereas school adjustment did not affect life satisfaction. Furthermore, peer relationship was mediated in the relationship between parental support and life satisfaction. This study is expected to serve as a basis data for providing emotional support for adolescents based on parental background characteristics of multicultural families.

본 연구에서는 다문화 가정의 배경 특성에 따른 부모의 지지, 교우관계, 학교 적응 및 삶의 만족도의 차이를 탐색해보고, 부모의 지지와 자녀의 삶의 만족도 간의 관계에서 교우관계와 학교 적응의 매개효과를 검증하였다. 이를 위해 한국청소년정책연구원에서 조사한 다문화 청소년 패널(MAPS) 7차 데이터를 활용하였다. 그 결과, 부모의 지지는 아버지의 학력과 어머니 직업, 어머니 출신 국가에 따라 차이를 보였고 교우관계는 외국인 부모의 한국어 쓰기, 읽기 수준에 따라 다르게 나타났다. 또한, 학교 적응은 아버지와 어머니의 학력, 어머니 직업에 따라 차이가 있었으며, 삶의 만족도는 아버지 학력에 따라 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 부모의 지지는 자녀의 교우관계, 학교 적응과 삶의 만족도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 교우관계 역시 학교 적응과 삶의 만족도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 반면에 학교 적응은 삶의 만족도에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 부모의 지지와 자녀의 삶의 만족도 간의 관계를 교우관계가 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 다문화 가정의 배경특성과 다문화 청소년이 지각한 부모의 정서적 지지, 교우관계, 학교 적응 및 삶의 만족도를 탐색한 본 연구는 다문화 가정 청소년의 정서적 지원 방안을 강구하기 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
