Amid growing calls for strengthening key competencies toward universities for years, universities and professors are still offering various opinions on competence. Controversy continues over pros and cons of competence, but this study wanted to reflect on the needs of stakeholders surrounding universities. In other words, as a concern about how universities can accept core competencies, it was proposed to define core competencies more broadly as everyday forces that can create life on their own, not as vocational and job-related abilities. This approach is based on the premise that universities will be able to judge more reasonably on their demand for strengthening their core competencies through liberal arts education. Therefore, if there are professors and universities who want to further strengthen the link between core competence and education, realistic ideas will be needed, and this study was conducted. To this end, efforts to link the core competencies of Korean universities to educationally were organized step by step and various alternatives were proposed. In other words, it is hoped that the proposal for the design and operation of the core competency-based liberal arts curriculum will be a small but realistic study in the operation of university liberal arts education.

대학을 향한 핵심역량강화에 대한 요구는 수년째 강해지고 있다. 그러나 대학과 교수들은 여전히 역량에 대해 다양한 의견을 제시하는 등 역량에 대한 찬성과 반 대의 주장을 펼치고 있다. 본 연구는 대학을 둘러싼 많은 이해관계자들이 역량에 대한 필요성을 지속적으로 제기하고 있는 바, 이러한 요구에 부응하기 위한 방안을 교양교육을 중심으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 대학이 핵심역량강화에 대한 요구를 수 용할지 거부할지에 대한 결론이 나지 않았다면 핵심역량을 직업과 직무에 관련된 능력만이 아니라 스스로 삶을 만들어나갈 수 있는 일상적인 힘이나 해낼 수 있는 능력으로 일반화하여 접근할 수 있기를 제언하였다. 즉 역량이 개인이 삶을 살아가 는 힘이기 때문에 대학에서 이 역량을 강화시켜 줄 필요가 있다고 판단하였다면 그 이후에는 교양교육을 통한 핵심역량 강화 방법에 대해 고민할 수 있다는 것이 다. 사회적 요구에 보다 합리적으로 대응하기 위해서 대학이 할 수 있는 것에 대해 고민을 하고 있다는 전제 하에 본 연구가 진행되었다. 즉 핵심역량과 교육영역, 특 히 교양교육의 연계를 더욱 강화시키고자 하는 교수와 대학들이 있다면 무엇보다 현실적이고 실용적인 아이디어가 필요할 것이라고 판단하고 본 연구가 수행되었 다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 국내 대학들의 핵심역량을 교육적으로 연계하기 위한 노 력을 단계별로 정리하고 더 나아가 추진할 수 있는 다양한 대안들을 제시하였다. 즉, 핵심역량기반의 교양교육과정 설계 및 운영에 대한 제언을 통해 대학 교양교육 운영에 있어서 작지만 현실적인 도움이 되는 연구가 되기를 기대한다.
