This paper introduces the French art historian Daniel Arasse's art history method, 'Iconographie Analytique', and applies it to the analysis of works of art. Erwin Panofsky's Iconology aims to clarify the content, subject, and essential meaning of an art work. However, Daniel Arasse points out that Erwin Panofsky's iconology is based on false premises and assumptions. Iconological analysis did not consider the transparency of meaning, the characteristics of the subject as a painter, and the method of describing history, and overlooked the importance of 'figure' and 'figurabilité' in art works. Analytical iconography, which Arasse proposed as an alternative to Panofsky's Iconology, is a method that implies plural temporality that combines the concept of traditional iconography, the social history approach of art, and Freud's psychoanalysis. This method regards artwork as being created through condensation or surdetermination like a dream. Accordingly, the analysis of the work focuses on the figure that reveals the artistic individuality of the subject as a painter, and reveals the painter's intimacy condensed in it. By applying 'Iconographie Analytique' to Michelangelo's and Titian's , we can expect the expansion of art history.

본고는 프랑스 미술사가 다니엘 아라스(Daniel Arasse)의 미술사 방법론인 ‘분석적 도상학(Iconographie Analytique)’을 소개하고 이를 미술작품 분석에 적용하는 연구이다. 에르빈 파노프스키(Erwin Panofsky)의도상해석학(Iconology)은 미술작품의 내용과 주제 그리고 본질적인 의미를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 하지만아라스는 도상해석학이 잘못된 전제와 가정에 따르고 있음을 지적한다. 도상해석학은 이미지와 텍스트의관계, 화가라는 주체의 특성, 역사 서술 방법을 숙고하지 않았으며, 미술작품 속 ‘형상(figure)’과 ‘형상화(figurabilité)’의 중요성을 간과했다. 도상해석학의 한계를 극복하기 위해 아라스가 제안한 분석적 도상학은 전통적인 도상학(Iconography), 미술의 사회사적 접근과 정신분석학의 개념을 결합시킨 것이다. 아라스는 미술작품이 꿈처럼 응축(condensation) 또는 중층결정(surdetermination)를 통해 생성된다고 간주한다. 그에 따라 분석적 도상학은 화가라는 주체의 예술적 개성이 드러나는 형상에 집중하여, 그 속에 응축된화가의 내밀성을 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. 본 논문은 분석적 도상학을 미켈란젤로의 <모세>와 티치아노의<신중함의 알레고리>에 적용하여 미술사 방법론을 확장하는데 기여한다.
