This study aims to consider the educational meaning of learning the tones of Korean musical in Korean music appreciation education and to present the problems shown in the current state of tone learning and ways to improve it. The results of the study are as follows. First, the 2015 revised music curriculum was analyzed to examine the basis of the curriculum for instrumental tone learning. The direction of specifying tone learning based on achievement standards for each grade cluster associated with ‘music elements and concepts’ was reviewed in terms of goals, content, methods, and evaluations. Second, based on literature review and surveys, the meaning of Korean musical instrument tone learning was considered in terms of understanding the melodic characteristics and forms of Korean music, learning the principles of harmony and balance of sound, basic activities that make students interested in Korean music, factors that determine one’s preference for Korean music, and the foundation to nurture active appreciators of Korean music and those who enjoy it. Third, the problems shown in the current state of Korean musical instrument tone learning in elementary school music textbooks were analyzed. As a result, it was pointed out that the system of learning the tones of Korean musical instruments was insufficient and that there were no basic music pieces for learning the tones of Korean musical instruments. There was also a problem that students lacked accessibility to support self-directed learning and that the evaluation contents were biased toward the tone discrimination skill. Fourth, in order to improve these problems, it was proposed that knowledge of Korean musical instrument tone education and categories of activities should be established and that music pieces appropriate for elementary education should be developed and included. In addition, it was mentioned that music textbooks should function as a platform to guide content in order to enhance accessibility to learning the tones of Korean musical instruments and set a comprehensive direction for evaluation of ‘knowledge, skill, and attitude’ related to learning the tones of Korean musical instruments.

본 연구는 국악 감상교육에서 국악기 음색 학습이 지니는 교육적 의미를 고찰하고, 국악기 음색 학습 현황에 나타난 문제와 이에 대한 개선 방안을 제시하는 데 목적을 두었다. 연구 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2015 개정 음악과 교육과정을 분석하여 악기 음색 학습의 교육과정 근거를 살펴보 았다. 또한 ‘음악 요소와 개념’과 관련된 학년군별 성취기준을 근거로 음색 학습을 구체화할 때의 방향성을 목표, 내용, 방법, 평가 측면에서 검토하였다. 둘째, 선행연구와 설문조사를 토대로 국악기 음색 학습의 의미를 ‘국악의 선율적 특징과 형식의 이해, 소리의 어울림과 조화의 원리 터득, 국악에 관심을 갖게 하는 기초적인 활동, 국악의 선호도를 결정하는 요소, 적극적인 국악 감상자, 향유자를 만드는 토대’가 된다는 측 면에서 고찰하였다. 셋째, 초등학교 음악교과서를 분석하여 국악기 음색 학습의 현황과 문제를 분석하였다. 그 결과 국악기 음색 학습의 체계가 미비하고, 국악기 음색 학습을 위한 기초 악곡이 부재함을 문제로 지적하였다. 또한 학생들의 자기주도적 학습을 지원할 수 있는 접근성이 미비하고, 평가 내용이 음색을 구별하는 기능에 편중되어 있는 문제가 드러났다. 넷째, 이러한 문제를 개선하기 위해 국악기 음색 학습에 관한 지식과 활동 범주를 설정하 고, 국악기 음색 학습을 위한 초등교육용 악곡을 개발․수록해야 함을 제안하였다. 더불어 국악기 음색 학습의 접근성을 제고하기 위해 음악교과서가 콘텐츠를 안내해줄 수 있는 플랫 폼으로서의 기능을 해야 하며, 음색 학습과 관련된 ‘지식, 기능, 태도’의 종합적인 평가 방향 을 설정해야 함을 언급하였다.
