The purpose of this study is to find character of educated man in social studies in the era of the fourth industrial revolution and to suggest educational challenges accordingly. To this end, the direction of school education was identified as expanding humanistic education and strengthening personality education and thinking education through the analysis of the characteristics and impact of the fourth industrial revolution. Based on this, this study argued that social studies education should be directed toward social transformation perspective, and that transformative doer with higher order thinking should be established as the educated man in social studies education. As the educational tasks, this study suggested that issues-centered education should be strengthened to foster transformative doer and that practical application of integrative curriculum, strengthening reciprocal learning, and forming a collaborative community of inquiry be required for successful issues-centered education.

이 연구는 제4차 산업혁명 시대에 부합하는 사회과교육을 받은 인간상을 모색하고, 그에 따른 교육적 과제를 제시하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위하여, 제4차 산업혁명의 특징과 영향을 분석하여 학교교육의 방향을 인간주의 교육의 확대와 인성교육과 사고교육의 강화로 규명하였다. 그리고 이에 기초하여 사회과교육은 사 회 변혁 관점을 지향하고, 사회과교육을 받은 인간상은 고등사고능력을 지닌 변혁적 실천가로 설정해야 한다 고 밝혔다. 교육적 과제로는 변혁적 실천가를 양성하기 위해 쟁점중심교육이 강화되어야 하고, 성공적인 쟁점 중심교육을 위해서는 통합교육과정의 실제적 적용과 상호호혜적 학습의 강화 및 협력적 탐구의 공동체 형성 이 요구된다고 제안하였다.
