This study aims to introduce the current research and suggest further research regarding self-concept clarity that is actively conducted in contemporary developmental psychology. To achieve this aim, we define self-concept clarity, and then analyze and summarize the preexisting factors, the developmental process, and the contents of measurements and methods of self-concept clarity Additionally, to analyze the domestic and foreign research about self-concept clarity, this study examines various cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and socioeconomic factors that have been correlated to self-concept clarity. Furthermore, this study explores the overall concepts of self-concept clarity and analyzes the effect of self-concept clarity on interpersonal relationships, social development, and cultural differences. Last, this study discusses the possibility and further direction of the research regarding how self-concept clarity, accompanied by the other self-relevant variables, can be applied to cognitive therapy and counseling programs.

이 연구는 최근에 발달심리학에서 활발하게 연구되고 있는 자기개념 명확성의 연구 현황을 개관하고 추후 연구과제를 제안하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 자기개념 명확성에 대해 정의하고 자기개념 명확성의 선행요인과 발달과정, 측정도구 및 방법에 대한 내용을 분석하고 정리하 였다. 이와 더불어 자기개념 명확성에 대한 국내외 연구동향을 분석하기 위해 자기개념 명확 성과 상관관계가 밝혀진 여러 가지 인지 정서, 행동 및 사회환경적 변인들을 살펴보았다. 그 리고 자기개념 명확성이 대인관계 및 사회성 발달에 미치는 영향과 문화적 차이를 분석하여 자기개념 명확성을 전반적으로 파악하고자 하였다. 마지막으로 이러한 내용을 토대로 자기개 념 명확성이 자기관련 변인과 더불어 인지치료적 개입이나 심리상담에 활용될 수 있는 가능 성과 추후 연구방향을 논의하였다.
