Since Daejonggyo acquired Cheonbukyung, the believers regarded it as a scripture of the nation within Daejonggyo, and tried to interprete, observe, collect, and interpret internal and external research. In addition, Cheonbukyeong was introduced in internal and external magazines and books, and the head of the Daejonggyo and other members of Daejonggyo memorized Cheonbukyeong and spread it naturally. Many independence activists, including members of the Provisional Government's State Council such as Lee Si-young during the Liberation War, were believers of Daejonggyo, and scholars of the Korean Language Society were also believers of Daejonggyo. Even after the liberation, since Daejonggyo was a group of intellectuals and held lectures on subjects such as history and Hangeul, Cheonbukyung continued to spread. However, due to the difficult interpretation, Cheonbukyeong was not recognized as a scripture until 1975. After recognizing the scriptures, the heads of Daejonggyo, such as Kwon Tae-hoon and Ahn Ho-sang, wrote and gave lectures to popularize Cheonbugyeong and traditional practice. Another reason why Cheonbugyeong's official scripture was delayed is that another scripture, Samilshingo, was the main scripture of Daejonggyo. Samilshingo is also a scripture that explains God's action and the reason of all things and teaches the way of man by the three-one rationale of becoming one in three, so Daejonggyo members who were engaged in teaching interpreted the Cheonbukyeong based on Samilshingo.

대종교는 천부경을 입수한 이후 민족의 경전으로 간주하고 대내 외의 연구를 예의주시하며 해석해보고자 노력했다. 대종교 수장을 비롯하여 교인들이 천부경을 중시하며 천부경을 대내외의 잡지나 책에 소개했다. 해방 전후에 대종교인들은 지식인 집단으로 전통 종교와 역사, 문화 등을 연구하며 전파했으므로 천부경도 대종교를 통해서 꾸준하게 보급되었다. 그러나 천부경은 해석이 난해하여 1975년에 이르러서야 경전으로 공인되었다. 경전 공인 후에 대종교 수장들은 집필과 강연을 통해 천부경과 전통 수행을 크게 유행시켰다. 천부경의 경전 공인이 늦어진 또 다른 이유는 삼일신고가 대종 교의 주된 경전이었기 때문이다. 삼일신고도 셋으로 하나 되는 삼 일 이치에 의한 하느님의 작용과 만물의 이치를 설명하고 사람의 길을 가르치는 경전이어서 교직에 종사한 대종교인들은 삼일신고에 의거하여 천부경을 해석했다.
