This article examines the system and its philosophical significance of Sim-Hak-Ji-Gyeol(心學至訣), which means a very extremely important teaching in Sim Learning(心學, learning of the mind), written by Park Se-chae(朴世采) in Joseon during the 17th century. Sim-Hak-Ji-Gyeol is a work that sees the core idea of Sim Learning as Gyeong(敬, respect and attention) and organizes the remarks about it categorically. From this, a systematic discussion of Gyeong was established, or Gyeong Learning(敬學). This was to identify Confucius’ Jen Learning(仁學) and Jeong-Ju’s Learning(程朱學) on the inside as one, proclaiming Gyeong Learning as the essence of Confucianism, and to give order to a severely divided world by laying an ontological foundation on Rye Learning(禮學), the external expression of Gyeong on the outside. On the thought history perspective, Gyeong Learning is an elaboration of the essential teaching in Sim Learning, a fruit of the accumulation of existing Sim-Gyung(󰡔心經󰡕, Classic of the Mind) studies. In this process, the contents of Gyeong Learning were inherited from Jeong Gu’s(鄭逑) Sim-Gyung-Bal-whoey(心經發揮) and the form was influenced by Cho Ik’s(趙翼) Ji-Gyung-Do-Seol(持敬圖說). In this sense, Sim-Hak-Ji-Gyeol is a special achievement of Confucianism in Joseon during the 17th century.

이 글은 17세기 조선의 박세채(朴世采)가 지은 『심학지결(心學至訣)』의 체계와 그 철학적 의의에 대해서 살펴본 것이다. 『심학지결』은 심학(心學)의 핵심 사상을 경(敬)으로 보고, 이에 대한 언설들을 범주적으로 구분하여 정리한 저술이다. 이로부터 경에 대한 체계적인 논의 즉 경학(敬學)이 성립되었다. 이는 내면으로는 공자의 인학(仁學)과 정주(程朱)의 심학을 하나로 파악하여 경학을 유학의 본질로 천명하기 위한 것이고, 외면으로는 경의 외적 표현인 예(禮)에 존재론적 근거를 정초하여 극심하게 분열된 세계에 질서를 부여하기 위한 것이었다. 사상사적으로 보면, 경학은 심학의 본질적 가르침을 조탁(雕琢)한 것으로, 이는 기존 『심경(心經)』 연구의 축적에 따른 결실이다. 이 과정에서 경학의 내용은 정구(鄭逑)의 『심경발휘(心經發揮)』를 계승하였고, 형식은 조익(趙翼)의 『지경도설(持敬圖說)』에서 영향을 받았다. 이런 의미에서 『심학지결』은 17세기 조선유학의 특별한 성취라고 할 것이다.
