The geographical and spatial scope of the Kimun in the literature and its relationship with Baekje, Silla, and Banpa were identified, and through the review of the archaeological data, the Kimun was regarded as a small Gaya kingdom located upstream of the Nam River. Around the Unbong Plateau in the upper reaches of the Nam River, there were small Gaya countries that formed the same cultural and living areas based on close exchanges between Hamyang and Sancheong counties in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The inscriptions in the literature consist of upper, middle, and lower Kimun, and Unbong Plateau, which is located in the upper reaches of the country and distributed 160 medium and large ancient tombs including Yugok-ri, Durak-ri, Wolsan-ri, Imri, and Cheonggye-ri, is located in the SangKimun country. The local-based culture of the Unbong Plateau, called the "Land of God,"also features 12 gayageum songs by Ureuk and Yangjikgongdo. Unbong Plateau, where the above civilization is located, is an area where Baekje, Silla, Mahan, and other Gaya forces clashed during the Three Kingdoms Period, resulting in a combination of diverse cultures.

문헌 속 기문의 지리적ㆍ공간적 범위와 백제와 신라, 반파와의 관계 등을 파악하 고, 고고자료와 비교ㆍ검토를 통해 기문은 남강 상류에 자리했던 가야 소국으로 보았 다. 남강 상류의 운봉고원을 중심으로 경남 함양군과 산청군 일대에는 서로 긴밀한 교류관계를 바탕으로 동일한 문화권 및 생활권을 형성했던 가야 소국들이 있었다. 문헌 속 기문은 상ㆍ중ㆍ하기문으로 구성되어 있는데, 지리적으로 상류에 있으 면서 유곡리와 두락리ㆍ월산리ㆍ임리ㆍ청계리 등의 고분군를 비롯한 160여기의 중대형 고총이 분포하는 운봉고원을 상기문국으로 비정하였다. ‘신선의 땅’이라 불리우는 운봉고원에 지역적인 기반을 둔 상기문국은 우륵의 가야금 12곡과 양직공도에도 그 이름이 등장한다. 상기문국이 자리한 운봉고원은 삼국시대 백제와 신라, 마한 그리고 여러 가야세력이 부딪치기도 하고 교류하면서 다양한 문화가 복합적으로 나타나는 지역이다.
