Realization of Forest Welfare through Ecological Restoration of Island Forests on the Southwest Coast based on Reference Ecosystem This study was carried out by the Realization of Forest Welfare Policy through Ecological Restoration of Island Forests on the Southwest Coast based on Reference Ecosystem. Making up of Island-Forest Restoration on the Southwest Coast is the site needed for appropriate bio-resources, biodiversity, landscape resources, and for the conservation of eco-tour resources, and protection of human life and property from unexpected disasters on the Island. Based on reference ecosystem, the restoration of Island-Forest Restoration planning was developed to facilitate the growth of trees, while also considering planting sites. The reference ecosystem for the Island-Forest Restoration on the Southwest Coast consists of warm temperate evergreen and subtropical forests, which are spread around the Southwest Coast of Korea. The target of the present reference was to select species of trees based on environmental adaptability, according to the direction of island forest formation and by referring to the reference ecosystem. To achieve both functions of Island-Forest Restoration on Southwest Coastal Area and ecological effect in a short time period, seedlings (H0.5~2.0m) were planted at the site with a high-density of 10,000~40,000/ha, in expectation of easy maintenance in the future. The significance of this study is to suggest a guideline to create ecological IslandForest Restoration on Southwest Coastal Area, in which the harmony of human life and the ecological conservation is of great importance. Also, in terms of realizing forest welfare policy and Island culture, Island-Forest Restoration on Southwest Coastal Area should be developed further through the long-term monitoring, after the restoration of forest.

본 연구는 참조생태계를 기반으로 한 서남해안 섬숲 생태복원을 통한 산림복지 정책실현을 위해 추진되었다. 서남해안 섬숲복원 대상지는 적절한 생물자원, 생물다양성, 경관자원이 필요하고 예기치 못한 섬 재해로 인한 생태관광자원의 보전 및 인명·재산보호에 필요한 장소이다. 참조 생태계를 토대로 식재지를 고려해 나무의 생육이 용이하도록 섬숲 생태복원계획을 수립하였다. 서남해안 섬숲 생태복원을 위한 참조생태계는 따뜻한 온대 상록수림과 아열대림으로이루어져 있으며, 우리나라 남서해안을 중심으로 분포하고 있다. 현재 참고하려는 목표는 섬숲 조성 방향에 따라 환경 적응성을 바탕으로 참조생태계를 참고하여 수종을 선정하였다. 복원대상지에서는 서남해안권 섬숲 생태복원의 기능과 단기간에 생태적 효과를모두 달성하기 위해 향후 관리가 용이하도록 묘목(H0.5~2.0m)을 10,000~40,000/ha 로 밀식하여 심도록 하였다. 이번 연구의 의의는 인간생활의 조화와 생태보존의 중요성이 매우 큰 서남해안권 섬숲 생태복원 가이드라인을 제시한 것이다. 또한 남도의 섬문화와 산림복지정책 실현이라는 점에서 서남해안지역의 섬숲 생태복원은 산림복원 후 장기적인 모니터링을 통해 더욱 발전시켜야 한다.
