Han Yong-un is a rare person who has achieved the unification of poets, Korean Zen monk, and revolutionaries in the modern history of Korea. While accepting the position criticizing the point that Yong-un Han's unity has been nationalistically understood, an alternative was suggested for the position to deny the unity itself. This alternative also resists the view of Han Yong-un as a pre-modern traditional intellectual. As an extension of that, I propose to replace the theory of aesthetic autonomy in literature, which requires specialization of emotions (“情”), with the thesis of rarity of the utterances. The literary politics of Han Yong-un is ubiquitous among the plural politics, which are the fundamental forms of establishing mutual relations between communities. Yongwoon Han proposes practicing Zen as a “method, not a method,” in order to stylize the courage to traverse between multiple political. This is interpreted as an art of citizenship, an attempt to redefine the relationship between modern individuals and communities. This thesis revealed that the art of citizenship that enabled the transition from the premodern world to the modern world that Yongun Han showed was expressed by his literature.

한용운은 한국 근대사를 살면서 시인, 선승(禪僧), 정치가의 일체화를 이룬 드문 인물이다. 한용운의 일체화가 민족주의적으로 이해되어 온 점에 대해 비판하는 입장을 수용하는 한편 일체화 자체를 부정하려는 입장에 대해서는 대안을 제시하였다. 이 대안은 한용운을 전근대의 전통적인 지식인으로 보는 입장에도 저항한다. 그 연장선에서 감성(‘情’)의 특화를 요구하는 문학의 미적 자율성론은 언표의 희박성 테제로 대체하자고 제안한다. 한용운의 문학은 공동체 사이의 상호 관계를 설립하는 근본적인 양식인 복수의 정치‘들’ 사이에 편재한다. 한용운은 복수의 정치‘들’ 사이를 횡단하는 용기를 생활 속에 양식화하기 위한 ‘방법 아닌 방법’으로 선 수행을 제안한다. 이는 근대적 개인과 공동체의 관계를 재정립하려는 모색인 시민다움의 기예로 해석된다. 이번 논문은 전근대 세계에서 근대 세계로 이행할 때 요구되는 시민다움의 기예가 한용운의 문학에 의해 표현되었다는 점을 밝혔다.
