The COVID 19 Pandemic was a decisive confirmation of the fact that humanism in regard to the omnipotence of choice or freedom as a subject is no longer valid. As in the case of the movie “The Mist”, it made us notice that we are in the inevitability of disaster, which is never avoided, that the logic of retribution for one’s sin is never used. It also made us realize that we are part of the ‘actor-network’ consisting of natural, cultural and economic mix, a humid atmosphere full of the droplet of the virus, involuntary contact with the asymptomatic and the development of science-medical technology and IT represented by emergency disaster texts to cope with the Pandemic etc. We must actively consider this problem. Nevertheless, the paranoid logic still works, blaming any personality or group for the cause of the coronavirus crisis. It is as a fundamental constant for disasters, as shown in Chapter 2, which is analyzing the movie “Contagion” The paranoia still seeks to regard this as a result of the human subjectivity’s ability or responsibility. It is due to the attitude of sticking to the conventional humanistic thinking. It causes each other to fight suspiciously. Also it makes us to stick to existing worldviews related to religion, fanatics, political struggles, interests. It does not allow us to face up to the completely different ‘desastre’ situations of the Pandemic. Choi Eunmi’s recently released short story “Here We Face” is a meaningful novel in that it is a rare example of confirming the plight of individuals decisively violated by the inevitability of a disaster through the daily lives of the Pandemic we are passing through.

코로나19 팬데믹은 주체로서의 선택이나 자유의 전능성에 관한 인간중심 주의가 더 이상 유효하지 않다는 사실을 결정적으로 확인시키는 계기가 되 었다. 도리어 영화 「미스트」의 사례처럼 인과나 응보의 논리가 전혀 통용되 지 않는, 결코 회피할 수 없는 재난의 필연성 속에 우리가 놓여 있다는 사실 을 절감하게끔 했다. 또한 바이러스의 발생과 확산을 가능케 한 원인으로서 의 자연적・문화적・경제적 혼합체, 바이러스의 비말이 만연한 습한 대기, 무증상자와의 부지불식간의 접촉, 그리고 팬데믹에 대처하기 위한 과학-의 학기술 및 긴급재난문자로 대표되는 IT의 발전 등으로 구성된 ‘행위자 네트 워크’의 일부를 이루고 있다는 사실을 자각하고 적극적으로 사유하지 않으 면 안 되는 지경에 이르게 했다. 그럼에도 불구하고 코로나19 팬데믹의 원인을 식별 가능한 어떤 인격이 나 집단에 전가하여 문책하고자 하는 팬데믹 파라노이아가 여전히 작동하 고 있다. 영화 「컨테이젼」에 대해 분석하고 있는 2장에서 잘 드러난 것처럼 이것은 재난에 있어서 근본적인 상수로서 존재한다. 그것은 이러한 사태를 여전히 인간 주체의 역량이나 책임에 의한 것으로 귀속시키려는 기존의 휴 머니즘적 사고를 고수하고자 하는 태도에서 비롯된 것이다. 이것은 인류라 는 하나의 얼굴 대신 서로가 서로를 끊임없이 질시하면서 대상을 찾고 갈라 치기 하도록 한다. 뿐만 아니라 종교나 광신, 정치적 투쟁이나 이해관계 등 의 기존의 세계관을 고수하면서 팬데믹이라는 이전과 완전히 달라진 데자 스트르적 사태를 제대로 보지 못하도록 한다. 최근에 발표된 최은미의 단편 소설 「여기 우리 마주」는 이러한 재난의 불가피한 필연성에 의해 결정적으 로 침해당한 개인들의 난국을, 우리가 경유하고 있는 팬데믹의 일상을 통해 새삼 확인시키는 희귀한 사례라는 점에서 의미심장한 소설이다.
