The purpose of this study is to conduct an empirical analysis to examine whether the Audit Committee, which was introduced to improve accounting transparency and corporate governance, actually improves accounting transparency. To this end, we examined whether the establishment of the Audit Committee and its accounting and financial expertise improve accounting transparency. In addition, we examined whether the influence of accounting/ financial expertise on accounting transparency differs based on the type of accounting/financial expert. The analysis results showed that first, accounting transparency increased when an audit committee was established. This implies that the Audit Committee, which was introduced to improve governance structure and accounting transparency, is effective. Second, accounting transparency increased with an increase in the proportion of accounting and financial experts in the Audit Committee. The Audit Committee works more effectively as its accounting and financial expertise increases. Third, Accounting transparency improves when a master's degree or higher in accounting and finance and those with accounting and finance experience, such as a financial company or the government is included in the Audit Committee. In addition, those with a master's degree or higher in accounting and finance have a greater impact on improving accounting transparency than those with experience in accounting and finance, such as those from financial companies or the government. The effect of the accounting transparency of the Audit Committee depends on its type of accounting/financial expertise. The contributions of this study are as follows. First, the effect of the audit committee was analyzed using the accounting transparency index that comprehensively encompasses the quality of financial reporting. Second, it was found that the impact on accounting transparency differs depending on the types of accounting and finance experts in the Audit Committee. This is expected to serve as a reference for policy makers and business people.
