This thesis analyzes the issues between Korea and Japan on territorial sovereignty over Dokdo. Although it has been more than half a century since Korea exercised territorial sovereignty over Dokdo, Japan is interfering with Korea's exercise of sovereignty over Dokdo for various reasons. This paper thus looks into the existing historical literature to review the arguments of both countries. First, Korea argues that Dokdo has been a Korean native territory from ancient times through the analysis of literature on Ulleungdo, which can be related to Dokdo. On the other hand, the Japanese argue that the Ulleungdo appearing in ancient literature has no connection to the Dokdo today. Second, in response to the Korean claim that Japan recognized Dokdo as an island unrelated to Japan in Ulleungdo and Dokdorelated documents made in Japan after the Middle Ages, Japan claims that the Dokdo mentioned in those documents is not the Dokdo of today, but is an island 2km away from Ulleungdo. Third, the contents of Ulleungdo and Dokdo appearing in Korean literature after the Middle Ages claim that Korea has recognized Ulleungdo and Dokdo since the Middle Ages, but Japan argues that they first recognized Ulleungdo and Dokdo earlier. Fourth, Japan argues against South Korea's claim that Dokdo was a victim of Japanese imperialism in the early 20th century, and rather insists that it was legal as a way of obtaining territory by the international community at that time. As such, arguments of both Korea and Japan over Dokdo contradict each other. Therefore, this paper aims to objectively review and analyze both countries' recognition of territorial sovereignty over Dokdo by comparing and analyzing KoreanJapanese literature related to Dokdo and Ulleungdo.

이 논문은 독도영유권을 둘러싼 한일 간의 쟁점사안에 대해서 분석하고 있다. 한 국이 독도에 대해 영토주권을 행사한지 반세기가 넘었지만 일본은 다양한 이유들을 근거로 한국의 독도영토주권행사를 방해하고 있다. 그래서 이 논문은 한일양국에 현 존하는 문헌을 중심으로 독도영유권에 관한 한일양국의 입장에 대해서 고찰 분석하 고 있다. 그 고찰분석내용으로는, 첫째, 한국은 고대로부터 독도와 관계 될 수 있는 울릉도 문헌을 통해서 독도가 옛날부터 한국의 고유영토라고 주장하는 반면 일본은 고대문헌에 나오는 울릉도는 지금의 독도와는 관계가 없다는 주장으로 일관하고 있 다. 둘째, 중세이후 일본에서 만들어진 울릉도 독도관련 문헌에 대해서 일본이 독도 를 일본과 무관한 섬으로 인정했다는 한국주장에 대해 일본은 그 문헌에 등장하는 독도는 울릉도에서 2km떨어진 섬을 애기하는 것이지 지금의 독도가 아니다 고 주 장한다. 셋째, 중세 이후 한국문헌에 등장하는 울릉도 독도관련 내용은 한국이 중세 이후 울릉도와 독도를 인지하고 있었다는 주장에 대해 일본은 그들이 먼저 울릉도 독도를 인지하였다고 주장한다. 그리고 넷째, 지금 일본이 독도영유권을 주장하는 것은 20세기 초 독도가 일본제국주의의 희생물이었다는 한국의 주장에 대해 일본은 당시 국제사회의 영토획득방법으로는 합법적이었다고 주장한다. 이처럼 독도를 둘러 싼 한일양국의 주장은 한발자국도 물러섬이 없이 반복되고 있다. 그래서 이 논문은 울릉도 독도관련 한일양국문헌을 비교분석함으로써 독도영유권인식에 대해 객관적 으로 고찰분석 하는데 있다.
