The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the serialization periods of web novels and the continuous reading rates in order to provide technical guidelines for serialization that must be kept in mind by writers who just entered the web novel industry to continuously create web novels and grow into professional web novel writers thereby preparing a foundation for the web novel industry to be reborn as a virtuous cycle industry. To that end, this study grasped the serialization periods of the works being serialized on the web novel service platform Munpia and analyzed the effects of the serialization periods on the subscriptions and continuous reading rates to prepare technical guidelines for the successful serialization of web novels. As a result, it was found that web novel works should be serialized at least five times a week in order to induce many readers to subscribe, and that serializing seven or more times a week has a positive effect on maintaining many subscriptions and high continuous reading rates. In the case of free serial works, the pause of serialization brought about immediate mass disertion of readers and consequent rapid declines in view counts. In the case of paid serial works, although the pause of serialization did not lead to immediate mass disertion of readers, when the pause of serialization continued for three days or longer, mass disertion of readers and declines in continuous reading rates occurred. Therefore, for a successful serialization with subscriptions by many readers, the work should be frequently and sincerely serialized without pausing serialization based on storytelling that provides fun to the readers to increase the continuous reading rate. Although this study is biased toward the technical aspects of web novel serialization, it is intended to help the development of the web novel industry into a virtuous cycle structure by helping those writers who plan to start serialization in the web novel industry that quantitatively grows day by day understand the characteristics of web novel serialization and providing them with technical guidelines for serialization that will enable them to successfully settle in the industry.

본 연구는 웹소설의 연재 주기와 연독률의 상관관계를 분석하여 웹소설 업계에 진입 한 작가가 전문 웹소설 작가로 성장하기 위해 염두에 둬야 할 연재의 기술적 지침을 제공 하고 이를 통해 웹소설 산업이 선순환하는 산업으로 거듭날 수 있는 토대를 마련하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 웹소설 서비스 플랫폼 문피아에서 연재 중인 작품의 연재 주기를 파악하고 구독과 연독률에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 그 결과 주 7회 이상의 연재가 많 은 구독과 높은 연독률을 유지하는 데 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 것을 발견했으며 무료 연재 작품의 휴재는 독자의 즉각적인 대량 이탈과 급격한 조회 수 하락을 가져왔으며 유 료 연재 작품에서는 휴재 기간이 3일 이상 지속되면 독자의 대량 이탈과 연독률 하락이 발생했다. 따라서 성공적인 연재를 위해서는 독자에게 재미를 선사하는 스토리텔링을 바탕으로 휴재 없이 빈번하고 성실한 연재를 해야 연독률을 높이며 성공적인 연재를 할 수 있다는 것을 발견했다. 본 연구는 웹소설 연재의 기술적인 부분에 치우친 면이 있지만, 웹소설 업계에서 연재를 시작하고자 하는 작가에게 웹소설 연재의 특성을 이해시키고 그들이 성공적으로 업계에 안착할 수 있는 연재의 기술적인 지침을 제공하여 웹소설 산 업이 선순환하는 구조로 발전하는데 미약하나마 도움이 되고자 한다.
