The aims of the present study is First, to grasp the present problems existing inside of the police and find the way to improve these to develop offender profiling model in Korea, Secondly, as a prior study to develop the offender profiling system in Korea, to develop a model comprised of crime scene behaviors and variables, and to suggest a new direction for future studise.The result of the present study- To develop a offender profiling model in Korea, countermoves about the initial investigation, investigative organization, and the training system of investigators are suggested. - The result of discriminant analysis based on 1300 homicide cases in Korea using 14 categorise and 163 variables about offender's age, occupation, marital status, offender-victim relationship, family, sadism, psychoticism, and retaliation was 93.3%, and the rate of crosstab judgment correctness was 88.3% which is high. And general statistics also validate the result of discriminant analysis.Based on the remedies and methods of developing profiling system and homicide crime scene variables revealed through the cases in Korea, I hope the present study could be a cornerstone to develop original Korea homicide profiling system through the constant material collection and feedback.

프로파일링(profiling)이란 동일인에 의한 범죄는 공통성을 지닌다는 가정에 기초하여 범죄전의 준비행적, 범죄행위의 특성, 범죄후의 행적 등 소위 M․O(method of operation)를 파악하여 범죄자의 타입(type)을 추정하는 수사기법을 말한다. 유용한 수사자료로서 실용성 있는 프로파일링 체계를 갖추기 위해서는 초동수사 단계에서 얻어진 전반적인 상황 및 범죄자와의 면담을 통한 자료, 범인 검거 후 밝혀진 사실과의 비교분석을 통한 유기적인 피드백(feed-back)이 필요하며, 이러한 일련의 과정을 통하여 우리나라의 고유한 문화와 환경에 적합한 변인(Variable)들을 추출하고 이를 다시 검증하여 보편적으로 활용할 수 있는 프로파일링 데이터베이스를 구축하는 것이 무엇보다도 시급한 시점이라고 할 것이다. 프로파일링의 분류체계는 각 국가의 범죄형태가 그 나라의 사회적 상황이나 지리적, 문화적, 인류학적, 기타 여러 가지 요인에 의해 차별성을 갖게 되므로 타 국가의 체계를 그대로 원용할 수는 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 첫째, 프로파일링의 개념을 포함한 각종 이론적 검토와 외국의 선행연구에 대한 고찰을 통해 폭넓은 이해를 도모하고, 둘째, 한국의 독자적인 살인범 프로파일링 분류체계를 개발하기 위한 살인범 프로파일링의 모형(Variable) 설정과 더불어 향후 동 연구에 대한 새로운 방향을 제시하고자 한다.
