The study examined determinants of foreign drama programs including Korean, the US and the UK among Chinese college students. The data collection was done through the Chinese internet survey web-site "so jump". A total of 352 questionnaires were collected and only 325 questionnaires were used for data analysis. The major results were as following; firstly, motivations of Chinese college students to watch foreign drama programs were similar in spite of national differences of their products. Most of motivations were entertainment related or interests of foreign cultures. Secondly, there was a significant difference in the degree of preference of Chinese college students for different genre categories of Korean, American and British TV series. Among them, Chinese college students had the highest preference for genres such as school dramas, melodrama and romantic dramas, and the lowest for political genres for Korean drama programs. Thirdly, the cultural proximity of Korea, the United States, and the United Kingdom as recognized by Chinese college students showed significant differences. Respondents showed more close relationships to Korea based on cultural proximity than two other countries such as the United States, and the United Kingdom. Finally, motivations were major determinants for explaining watching foreign drama programs despite of nationalities. However, cultural proximity was not meaningful factors to understand viewing of foreign drama programs including Korean, the US and the UK among Chinese college students. The effect of genre preferences on viewing degree of Korean, American and British TV dramas was statistically significant in terms of Korean TV drama genres such as romantic series, American TV drama genres of political and legal series, and British TV drama genres such as science fiction series.

이 연구는 중국 대학생들의 한국 및 미국, 영국 드라마 시청에 영향을 미치는 요인들 을 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 중국 대학생 325명을 대상으로 온라인 설문 조사를 통해 해 외 3개국 드라마 시청 동기와 시청 정도에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 살펴보았다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중국 대학생들은 한국, 미국, 영국 드라마를 시청하는 동기 요인들이 해당 국가에 대한 문화적 관심 요인이나 오락적 요인 등으로 유사하게 나타났다. 둘째, 응답자들의 해외 드라마 장르별 선호도 차이를 살펴본 결과, 미국이나 영국에 비해 장르별 한국 드라마 선호도가 높게 나타났다. 한국 드라마 중에 학교드라 마와 멜로드라마, 로맨틱 드라마, SF/판타지 드라마 선호도가 높았던 반면에 미국이나 영국의 드라마 장르별 선호도는 SF/판타지를 제외하면 선호도가 낮은 편이었다. 셋째, 중국 대학생들은 한국이나 한국인에 대해 문화적 근접성 인식 정도가 비교적 보통 수준 이었던 반면 미국이나 영국, 미국인이나 영국인에 대해서는 문화적 근접성 정도가 높지 않았다. 넷째, 중국 대학생들의 해외 드라마 시청에 영향을 미치는 요인을 살펴본 결과, 국적과 관련 없이 시청 동기가 해외 3개국 드라마를 시청하는 가장 중요한 요인으로 나 타났다. 반면, 문화적 근접성은 중국 대학생들이 3개국 드라마 시청 정도에 유의미한 영 향을 미치지 못한 것으로 나타났다. 드라마 장르적으로는 한국 드라마의 경우 로맨틱 드라마 등이 지속적인 드라마 시청의도에 영향을 미친 반면 미국은 정치 드라마, 영국 은 SF 드라마 등이 시청 정도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
