Major approach of the research is to understand the identity of ‘Daily Best’, a social community built with social issue comments of anonymous users, based on ‘Social Identity Theory’ which was created by Tajfel and developed by Hogg and Abrams. This analysis of how did they separate in and out-group and what specifically inner circle of them exerts their influence in a small world they call ‘Daily Best’ is demonstrated on the basis of top fifty articles of highly recommended on “Daily Best(popular articles).” Analysis of the research tells they separate the inner and outer group based on their own irrational and emotional judgements. An inner group is basically a group of ‘Conservatism’ led by two presidents of Park Jeong Hee and Jeon Do Hwan. An outer group is a ‘Progressive’ group led by Noh Moo Hyun the president of republic of Korea and Park One Soon the mayor of Seoul, Korea. Additionally, a very odd fact that needed to be paid attention is that they rather appeal the emotion of hatred toward outer group than having an affinity with their own inner group on the process of categorizing two groups. This fact tells that it is debatable whether building an anxiety and crisis of our society and assuring limitless freedom of expression is realistic.

본 연구는 타자펠(Tajfel, 1974)이 만들고 호그와 아브람스(Hogg & Abrams, 1988)가 발전시킨 사회적 정체성(Social Identity)이론을 바탕으로 사회적 문 제가 되고 있는 ‘일간 베스트’의 정체성을 파악해보고자 하였다. 구체적으 로 일베의 게시판 중에서도 일베 이용자들이 가장 선호하는 ‘일베 일간베 스트(인기글)’ 게시판에 올라온 글 중 가장 많은 추천을 받은 상위 50개의 게시물을 분석 대상으로 하여 일베 스스로가 내집단과 외집단을 어떻게 나누는지, 그들 내외집단의 집단전형이 무엇인지 분석하였다. 분석결과 일 베는 특수하고 비 이성적이며 감정적인 판단에 의해 내외 집단을 나누고 있었으며 각 집단의 집단 전형으로는 박정희, 전두환 전 대통령을 필두로 한 ‘보수 안보’세력을 내집단의 전형으로, 노무현 전 대통령과 박원순 시 장 등을 포함한 ‘진보’세력을 외집단의 전형으로 규정하고 있었다. 특이한 점은, 일베는 내외집단을 범주화 하는 과정에서 내집단에 대한 애착보다는 외집단에 대한 혐오의 감정을 내세웠다는 것이다. 이러한 분석 결과는 우리사회의 불안감과 위기감을 조성하며, 나아가 무제한적인 표현의 자유 를 보장하는 것이 현실적인가에 대한 논의를 가능케 한다.
