The following text deals with the tradition and heritage of the Confession Church (Bekennende Kirche), which is respected for demonstrating its spirit of resistance against an evil regime in the 20th century. The purpose of this study is to examine, from a historical and ecclesiological perspective, what the Confessional Church showed as “core church” during the period of the repression of the Nazi regime, the period of confusion after the Second World War, and the period of suffering under the East German regime(SED). The German Confession Church movement, which started as a resistance movement during the Nazi regime, has been deemed as playing a historical central role in the era of chaos, with the Barmen Declaration of Theology (Barmer Theologische Erklärung). On the other hand, as a church which fought evils on earth, the Confession Church also showed misjudgment, infighting, and antagonism. This was particularly visible in pushing forward the seven propositions that were proposed while promoting the policy of the “church in socialism” (Kirche im Sozialismus). Nevertheless, the tradition of the Confession Church is of such great importance that the direction of the church today cannot be discussed without it. The text ends with a question about what lessons Korean church, as a member of today’s Korean society, can learn from the Confession Church.

본문은 20세기 세계 신학계에서 저항정신의 빛을 비춰준 교회로 존중 을 받는 고백교회의 전통과 유산에 대해 살펴보고 있다. 나치정권의 억압 시기, 종전의 혼란과 분단시기, 동독 정권 아래에서의 고난의 시기에 고백 교회가 보여주었던 ‘핵심교회’로서의 전통은 무엇이었는지 역사적, 교회론 적 관점에서 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 나치 집권기 저항운동으로 시 작된 독일 고백교회운동은 바르멘 신학선언과 함께 혼돈의 시대에 역사적 중심역할을 수행했던 것으로 받아 들여져 왔다. 본문은 이러한 고백교회의 중심적 측면에 대해 살펴보면서, 역사속의 교회로서 고백교회가 가질 수밖 에 없었던 한계와 고민, 그리고 극복의 모습에 대해서 함께 살펴보는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. 한편으로 지상의 전투하는 교회로서 고백교회는 오판과 내분, 그리고 반목을 보여주기도 했다. 이러한 모습은 특히 “사회주의 속 의 교회”의 정책을 추진하는 가운데 제시되었던 7개 명제의 모습에서 드러 나기도 했다. 그럼에도 불구하고 고백교회의 전통을 떠나서 오늘의 교회의 향방을 논할 수 없는 중요성을 가지고 있다. 본문은 오늘의 한국사회를 살 아가는 우리의 입장에서 볼 때, 고백교회로부터 배울 수 있는 교훈은 무엇 인지 질문을 제기하며 글을 정리하고 있다
