This essay is a study to describe the horizon of living world of migrants as others in Korea, to analyze the weak points of different kinds of cultural pluralistic discourses about migrants, and to suggest a political alternative for migrants not to live as objects of beneficiary but as subjects of human rights. The problem of migrants and cultural plurality in Korea is converged into the critical point how we synthesize the discrepancy between migrants' desires of self-realization and native Korean desires of self-preservation. Ethnocentrism, cultural relativism, and extreme capitalism can not be answers to the discrepancy, because they restrict the possibility of communicative struggle for recognition by depending on Philosophy of All or Philosophy of Us. Accordingly, cultural pluralism must be considered as Philosophy of Others in Us. In order that migrants do not live as objects of beneficiary but as subjects of human rights standing on the border between inter-subjectivity and post-subjectivity, we should abolish unequal laws of treating migrants as servants, organize mutual governance to consider migrants as citizens, support policy of multi-language learning, and guarantee the liberty of cultural choice. Above all, sound communication and solidarity of Korean plural society can be started with migrants' resistance against the exclusive subjectivity of Korean cultures.

이 글의 목적은 타자로서의 한국 내 이주민(여성결혼이민자)의 처지를 생활세계의 지평에서 기술하고, 이주민과 관련하여 제시될 수 있는 여러 종류의 문화다원주의적 담론들의 명암을 분석한 다음, 이주민이 단지 수혜의 대상이 아니라 권리의 주체로서 살아갈 수 있기 위한 정책적 대안을 제시하는데 있다. 급속한 세계화의 진행 속에서 한국사회가 당면하고 있는 이주민과 문화 다원성에 대한 문제는 이주민이 추구하는 자기실현의 욕구와 한국 사회가 추구하는 자기보존의 욕구 간 갈등을 어떻게 종합할 것인지로 그 초점이 모아진다. 문화적 다원성을 어떻게 종합할 것인지와 관련하여 다양한 방식으로 제안되고 있는 자문화중심주의문화상대주의시장지상주의 등은 ‘모두’의 철학이나 ‘우리’의 철학을 극단적으로 추종함으로써 복수의 가치들이 인정투쟁을 통해 의사소통 할 수 있는 가능성을 크게 제약하거나 부정한다는 점에서 옳지 못하다. 그렇다면 문화다원주의는 ‘모두’의 철학이나 ‘우리’의 철학 아닌 ‘우리 안의 타자 철학’의 관점에서 재해석되어야 한다. 이주민이 서로주체성과 탈주체성의 경계 위에서 수혜의 대상이 아니라 권리의 주체로 살아가기 위해서는 주종 관계로 된 법률의 폐지, 이주민이 시민으로서 참여하는 거버넌스(governance)의 형성, 다중 언어 학습의 지원, 자율적 문화 선택의 기회 부여 등이 이루어져야 한다. 그러나 무엇보다도 한국사회의 건전한 소통과 연대는 홀로주체성을 강요하는 한국문화에 대한 이주민의 저항에서 시작될 것이다.
