Currently, no independent system has been prepared by special classification for the industrial fields related to dance but the fields are included as detailed items of the performance industry in the contents industries. This study aims to establish the concept and covered range of the dance industry as a precondition of the industrialization of dance and to propose systematic classification of the dance industry, reflecting the similarity between specificity and production. Firstly, problems could be found in applying the characteristics of the dance industry to the existing classification system, such as the limitation in the range, ambiguity in the cross-industrial domain, and the inconsistency of standards for classification between industries. Secondly, the “dance industry” can be defined as the pro-duction activities that create all tangible and intangible values related to dance, such as dance performances, contents, education-related information, services, and commodities. Thus, the scope of the industry should include not only the viewing of dance performances, but also various types of education and experiences, creative work to provide cultural contents, manufacturing, distribution, and service industries. Thirdly, this study considered the connectivity of Korean Standard Industrial Classification(2017) based on the supply perspective, taking into account the utilizability of statistics preparation like industrial correlation analysis. In addition, this study was based on Porter’s “value chain” model(1985) and borrowed the concept of ‘industry cluster’ (Kang, 2005) from the market-oriented perspective. This study is the basic framework that can produce effective statistics which has a significance as the baseline data to establish the special classification of the official dance industry in the future to promote quantitative and qualitative growths of the dance industry with production activities accompanying the creative economy.

현재 무용과 관련된 산업 분야는 콘텐츠산업 중 공연산업의 세부 항목으로만 포함되어 있으며, 별도의 특수분 류로 독자적인 체계를 갖추고 있지 않다. 본 연구의 목적은 무용 산업화의 전제조건으로 무용산업의 개념과 포 괄 범위를 정립하고 무용 분야의 특수성과 생산업 간의 유사성을 반영한 분류체계를 마련하는 것이다. 첫째, 기존의 분류체계에 적용해 볼 때, 무용의 생산업은 해당 범위의 산발성, 산업 간 교차영역에서의 모호성, 산업 간 분류기준에서의 비일관성 등의 한계가 있다. 둘째, ‘무용산업(Dance Industry)’이란 공연, 콘텐츠, 교육 등 무용의 다양한 영역에서 생산되는 유무형의 재화와 서비스의 생산활동으로 정의될 수 있다. 따라서 산업 범위 는 무용공연의 관람 뿐 아니라 다양한 형태의 교육 및 체험, 창작, 제조, 유통, 서비스 등 무용과 관련된 모든 창조적 경제활동을 포괄하여야 한다. 셋째, 이 연구는 무용산업 통계 생산의 활용성을 감안하여 한국표준산업 분류(2017)의 연계성을 고려하였다. 또한 Porter(1985)의 ‘가치 사슬(Value Chain)’ 모델과 ‘산업 클러스터 (Industry Cluster)’(강준호, 2005)의 개념을 차용하여 시장지향적 관점에서 산업분류를 제안하였다. 이와 같은 연구의 시도는 양적, 질적 성장을 도모할 수 있는 무용산업의 잠재적인 가치들을 제안하고, 향후 공식적인 무 용산업 특수분류의 제정을 위한 기초자료로써 의의가 있다.
