- This thesis aims to compare two writings of "Annam jiyu" and Hainan zazhu, two Chinese personal records of drifting from Qing dynasty. The main purpose of the comparison is not to pay attention to the changes or developments of the same Vietnam visited with a lag of about 150 years. Rather, it attempts to analyze whether the Qing Dynasty's sino-centered view continues to strengthen and repeat despite the passage of time. To this end, we will compare the texts of two authors on two themes: description of Han-Chinese centered history on one hand, and that of Vietnamese women and foreign customs and institutions on the other hand. In conclusion, although the male authors were fascinated by the mysterious and savage scenery of foreign countries, the Han-Chinese, male-centered world view is reproduced through the late Qing period as seen these two texts.
