Both Shahrastani in his Milal and Ibn Haldun in his Muqaddima present the Kalam not as a unified system in contrast to the religious rationalization of the philosophers but rather as system split into contrasting views held by opposing sects. Common also to both of them in their presentation of the Kalam is that, while they refer to some philosophic influence upon it, neither of them mentions any Christian influence upon the Kalam in general. The question I put in this article is whether Islam Kalam is influenced only by the Greek philosophy or not. Why then didn't they accept it fully to transform their believes into logical arguments? I think there was a tension between Islam Kalam and Greek philosophy. That's why muslim mutakallimun needed Christian philosophy. The same problems which early christian philosophers had confronted were reoccurred in the muslim scholars in term of the tension between theology and philosophy. I focus on the development of christian philosophy in the intellectual movements of muslim mutakallimun. However on the whole the mutakallimun followed the Church Fathers in try to support four of their religious beliefs on the basis of philosophy and even borrowed from them some arguments, they deviate from them first in adopting certain views from antiquated Greek philosophy not used by the Christian and second in framing new arguments on unapproved philosophic premises and perverting some good philosophic arguments. Preliminary to these explanations, I describe how the Christian philosophy of the church Fathers, based upon pagan Greek philosophy but opposed to it, both in Greek and in Syriac come into existence, and how both the pagan Greek philosophy and the Christian philosophy came to be known to the Muslims through translations into Arabic as well as through works originally written in Arabic.

과연 이슬람 칼라암은 오직 그리스 철학의 영향 하에서만 독자적으로 발전했는가? 무슬림들은 그리스 철학의 영향을 받은 칼라암을 지지하지만 왜 그리스 철학을 전부 수용하지 않았을까? 그리고 어떻게 무슬림들은 그런 긴장 관계를 유지할 수 있는 논증을 구성할 수 있을까? 연구자는 이슬람 칼라암과 이슬람 철학사이의 긴장 관계속에 기독교 철학이 개입되어 있다고 생각한다. 왜냐하면 교부철학이나 초기 기독교 철학이 철학과 신학사이의 긴장관계에 관해서 고민했던 내용들이 무슬림 사이에서도 여전히 반복되고 있기 때문이다. 따라서 연구자는 이슬람의 철학적 신학이 그리스 철학의 단독 영향에 의해서만 형성되었다고 생각하지 않는다. 그러나 이슬람 종교사가들은 이슬람 신학의 형성과 관련해서 의도적으로 기독교의 영향을 배제하려는 움직임을 보이고 있다고 생각한다. 이 때문에 연구자는 이에 관한 다른 견해를 제시하고자 한다. 기독교의 영향이 이슬람 철학적 신학에 절대적인 영향을 행사했다고 간주하는 것도 합리적이지 못한 것처럼 전혀 서로 영향을 주고받지 않았다고 주장하는 것은 타당하지 못한다. 연구자는 이 글에서 유대 철학자인 마이모니데스의 주장들을 검토하면서 어떤 방식으로 기독교와 이슬람이 철학적 신학의 주제들과 관련해서 영향을 주고받았는지 또한 어떤 방식으로 이슬람 칼라암과 기독교 철학이 서로 다른 길을 걷게 되었는지를 밝혀보고자 한다.
