Wittgenstein’s expressivistic solution lies in the discovery of the conceptual connection between emotion and its characteristic behavioral expression. This enables us to develop an emotional language which we can apply to ourselves as well as others. From this conclusion, I will show what is precisely wrong with feelings theories that identifies emotion with bodily sensations as well as what is wrong with cognitive theories of emotion which emphasizes acts of mind as an essential feature of emotions. I will also show that Wittgenstein’s account successfully provides resources to overcome these two above mentioned reductionist positions’ insufficiencies, using crucial terms such as ‘noticing an aspect’ and ‘criteria’ as methodological instruments.
