The purpose of this study is to criticize Michael J. Sandel's argument against genetic engineering enhancement. Sandel argues that (G1) genetic enhancement is immoral because it is against the attitude of AG, and that (G2) when genetic engineering is realized, virtue of humility, responsibility, and solidarity is transformed. However, unlike (G1), genetic engineering enhancement is not against the attitude of AG, and even if it is against AG's attitude, it is not immoral. First, the argument that genetic engineering, which is only a technology to provide the possibility to gain talent, is contrary to AG's attitude is poorly grounded, and second, there is a lack of evidence that AG has the morality to be observed. And (G2) is not convincing either. First, even if genetic engineering is realized, humility does not necessarily weaken, second, there is no reason that the amplification of responsibility is to be vicious, and third, although genetic engineering is realized, solidarity is not necessarily reduced. Therefore, the author thinks that (G1) and (G2) are not valid, and that based on this, Sandel's argument against genetic engineering enhancement is not correct.

이 논문의 목적은 유전공학적 향상을 반대하는 샌델의 논거를 비판함에 있다. 샌델은 (G1)유전공학적 향상이 AG(선물주어짐에의 인정)의 태도에 어긋나므로 비도덕적이고, (G2)유전공학이 현실화되면, 겸손, 책임, 연대성의 미덕이 변형된다고 주장한다. 그러나 (G1)과 달리 유전공학적 향상은 AG의 태도에 어긋나지 않으며, AG의 태도에 어긋난다 하더라도 비도덕적이라고 할 수 없다. 첫째, 재능을 얻을 가능성을 제공하는 기술일 뿐인 유전공학이 AG의 태도에 어긋난다는 주장은 근거가 빈약하며, 둘째, AG가 반드시 준수되어야 하는 도덕성을 지닌다고 볼 근거 역시 미흡하기 때문이다. 그리고 (G2) 역시 설득력이 없다. 첫째, 유전공학이 현실화되더라도 겸손이 반드시 약화되는 것이 아니며, 둘째, 책임이 증폭되는 것이 악덕일 이유가 없고, 셋째, 유전공학이 현실화된다고 해서 연대성이 필연적으로 감소되는 것은 아니기 때문이다. 따라서 필자는 (G1)과 (G2)는 타당하지 않으며, 이를 논거로 하여 유전공학적 향상을 반대하는 샌델의 주장은 옳지 않다고 본다.
