This study sought to explore the practical perceptions that teachers who participated in the Democratic Citizens Education Teachers Academy have about democratic civic education. For this purpose, scenes of teachers participating in training and narratives were analyzed according to the lens of democratic citizenship. There are three practical perceptions of teachers revealed in the Democratic Citizens' Education Academy. First, teachers gradually shifted from what they thought was democratic civic education to democratic civic education. Second, teachers shared the view that they realize themselves as 'teacher citizens' and grow into 'student citizens' instead of limiting students to be educated. Third, teachers perceived that participation in social affairs is necessary to grow up as critical citizens. Through the above three, teachers welcomed each other as equal citizens, broadening their demands for democratic citizenship. Methodically they shared the experimental orientation of the students by reflecting their situation in democratic civic education activities. Based on the three practical perceptions shown by the participating teachers, the following two are presented to enhance teachers' competence in democratic civic education. First, teachers who will participate in democratic civic education activities need an attitude that practically embraces the daily life and life context of the student so that the student's citizenship can be expressed on a daily basis. Second, teachers need an emotional attitude to ensure equal and democratic participation with each other in the scene of education to foster citizenship with students. This inclusive attitude and emotional attitude can be seen as one aspect of the teacher's competence that teachers should show in order to promote the development of students' citizenship in each educational activity of democratic civic education.

본 연구는 민주시민교육 교사 아카데미에 참여한 교사가 민주시민교육에 대해 갖게 된 실 천적 인식을 탐색하고자 했다. 이를 위해 교사의 연수참여 장면과 내러티브 자료를 민주시민 성이라는 렌즈에 따라 분석하였다. 민주시민교육 교사아카데미에 드러난 교사들의 실천적 인식은 다음 세 가지이다. 첫째, 교사들은 본인이 생각하는 민주시민교육에서 점차 다중이 인식하는 민주시민교육으 로 전환해 나갔다. 둘째, 교사들은 자신을 ‘교사시민’으로서 자각하면서 학생을 교육받을 대상으로만 한정하지 않고, ‘학생시민’으로 성장시켜 나간다는 관점에 공감했다. 셋째, 교사들은 비판적인 시민으로서 성장하기 위해서는 사회문제에 대한 참여가 필요하다 고 인식했다. 위 세 가지를 통해 교사들은 서로를 동등한 시민으로서 환대하면서 민주시민성에의 요구를 넓혀갔다. 방법적으로 학생의 처지를 민주시민교육활동에 반영하여 변용해가는 실험적 지향 을 공유하였다. 이상 참여교사들이 보여준 세 가지 실천적 인식을 바탕으로 민주시민교육에 대한 교사역량 제고를 위한 방향성을 제시하면 다음 두 가지이다. 첫째, 민주시민교육활동에 참여할 교사들은 학생의 시민성이 일상적으로 발현될 수 있도록 학생의 일상과 삶의 맥락을 실천적으로 포용하는 태도가 필요하다. 둘째, 교사는 학생과 함께 시민성을 함양하기 위한 교육의 장면에서 서로 동등하면서도 민 주적으로 참여할 수 있도록 보장해주려는 정서적 태도가 필요하다. 이러한 포용적 태도와 정 서적 태도는 민주시민교육의 교육활동 마다 학생의 시민성 함양을 촉진시키기 위해 교사가 보여주어야 할 교사 역량의 한 측면에 해당한다고 볼 수 있다.
