In the 1990s, Western countries gained international competitiveness after the post-cold war era following the end of the Cold War, followed by a drastic reduction in military spending. In order to improve the government's defense industry export industrialization promotion policy and the efficiency of the defense business, it is analyzed that it is time to actively consider expanding the defense industry and integrating it. In order for the defense industry to overcome the limitations of the domestic market and transform the paradigm into an export-driven industry, it is necessary to secure competitiveness in the international defense market. The economy is possible. In this study, It aims to present the developmental direction to strengthen the international competitiveness of defense industry companies through major trends and trends related to the defense industry, and cases of enlargement and integration. We reexamined the growth potential of the defense industry and suggested directions for effective defense policy development.

1990년대 서구권 국가들은 냉전체제(Cold War) 종식에 따른 탈냉전 후 급격한 군비 축소 추세를 거쳐 대형화 및 통합화 하여 방산업계가 재편되면서 국제경쟁력을 갖추었다. 정부의 방위산업 수출산업화 육성 추진정책 및 방위사업 효율성을 제고 하기 위해 방산업체 대형화와 통합화 추진을 적극 검토해야할 시점으로 분석되었다. 방위산업이 내수시장의 한계를 탈피하여 수출 주도형의 산업으로 패러다임(Paradigm)이 전환되기 위해서는 국제 방산시 장에서 경쟁력 확보가 전제되어야 하겠으며, 이는 대형화 및 통합화를 통해 방위산업에서 규모의 경제 실현과 더불어 범위의 경제가 가능하겠다. 본 연구에서는 국내･외 방위산업 관련 주요 동향과 추이, 대형화 및 통합화 사례 등을 통해서 방산업체의 국제경쟁력을 강화할 수 있는 발전 방향성을 제시함에 목적을 둔다. 방위산업의 성장 가능성을 새롭게 재조명하고, 실효적인 방산업체 지원 및 육성 정책 관련 방향성을 제시하였다.
