The work to be analyzed in this study is the horror film “The Wailing”, which was made by Na Hong-Jin and premiered in 2016. The purpose of this research is to clarify the process of confusion and dissolution experienced by the subject (character) due to ambiguity and the ambiguity presented in the film. While existing research on "The Wailing" considered its ambiguity as a deceptive strategy, this paper aims to demonstrate not only the ambiguity experienced by the narrative subject in the movie but also, as a slasher film, how it incites the physical, psychological reaction of the audience, based on “abjection” and the “abject,” which are major concepts in Julia Kristeva philosophy. Therefore, the study explains these main concepts presented in Kristeva's theory and explores the process by which certain abjection is formed as the narrative of “The Wailing” develops. Furthermore, this paper looks at how “The Wailing” embodies the subject who is beset by abjection and allows the audience to experience such abjection.

본고의 연구 목적은 영화 <곡성>에서 제시된 모호성과 그러한 모호성 으로 인해 주체가 경험하는 혼란과 분열의 과정을 구체화하기 위함이다. 구체적으로 본고는 줄리아 크리스테바의 이론에서 주된 개념으로 제시되 는 아브젝시옹과 아브젝트를 중심으로 <곡성>에서 서사적 주체가 경험 하는 아브젝시옹과 이 아브젝시옹이 관객에게 미치는 신체적･심리적･상 징적 작용을 논증하고자 하는 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 크리스테바의 이론 에서 제시되는 주요 개념들을 설명하고 기존의 슬래셔 필름과 구별되는 <곡성>의 서사구조와 서사적 주체에 대해 탐구한다. 나아가 작품에서 기 존에 형성된 아브젝시옹의 해체와 재현, 그리고 아브젝트의 전치를 통해 <곡성>이 어떻게 아브젝시옹에 점령당한 주체를 구현하고 관객에게 아 브젝시옹을 체험하게 하는지를 살펴본다.
