What is noteworthy in Cho Hyeeun’s 『Bride’s Handbook』(2016) is the ‘a sense of contempt’ that the poetic speaker constantly experiences. In this paper, when the hostile intentions of others are clear, they are classified as ‘insult’ In addition, the shameful feelings experienced by the subject due to circumstances or structural contradictions in the absence of the perpetrator are divided into “humiliation” These two emotions analyzed Cho Hyeeun’s poems. In Cho Hyeeun’s poem, ‘husband’ derides and ridicules the ‘existence’ of ‘wife’ as inferior. In this way, he confirms his self-esteem and efficacy as a ‘husband’ and ‘head of the family’ within the system of patriarchal system. On a personal level, the poetic speaker suffers from humiliation caused by poverty in the original family. She is forced to walk into the family system when she does not have other alternatives for childbirth and upbringing. She also becomes a ‘soft ghost’ because she can only be recognized for family support and continue her life if her husband continues to insult her. On the other hand, it should be noted that on the structural level, the husband also suffers from the fact that he is not treated as a human being at the workplace. The important problem is that the husband has accumulated the money of humiliation gradually and passed it on to his wife, who can be called the weakest in the family. Inhumane labor reality acts as the basis for self-rationalization, which hinders the structural perception of the husband and, rather, transfers the anger to the weaker wife. As a result, the husband acts as a ticket and mediator to pass on and distribute insult and humiliation to his wife. Poetic speakers suffer from the task of raising their children, which they have to deal with entirely by themselves in ‘the pain of their bodies being worn out’. But another reason she can’t get out of this reality is that if she leaves the house, the child will have no choice but to grow up to be a motherless child. She dreams of running away from her family, but because of her thirst for ‘ideal motherhood’ and a vow not to allow her child to experience the wounds she suffered, she eventually chooses to remain at home even if she exists as ‘unfamiliar’. In the end, Cho Hyeeun’s poetic speaker’s ‘sense of contempt’ overlaps with the three layers of ‘sense of contempt’ that are passed on to her husband’s mockery and a sense of insult, the untreatable a sense of humiliation resulting from the poor reality of the original family, and the humiliation created by contradictions in the labor scene that inhumanely exploits the workers. Poetic speakers remain ‘strangers’ in their desire for ‘ideal motherhood’ and feelings of division, and endure this sense of contempt. 『Bride’s Handbook』is a point of exception in the evaluation that in the Korean literature after the 2000s, “A more advanced perception to comprehensively think about various differences resulted in paralyzing women”. Most of all, it can be said that it is a collection of poetry that vividly shows how women in the family suffer from the hindrance of a certain sense of contempt to become an ideal mother.

조혜은의 『신부수첩』(2016)에서 주목할 것은 시적 화자가 지속적으로 경 험하는 ‘모멸감’이다. 본고에서는 타인의 적대적인 의도가 선명할 때는 ‘모욕’, 가해자가 잘 보이지 않는 상태에서 상황이나 구조적인 모순이 원인이 되어 주체가 경험하는 수치스러운 감정을 ‘굴욕’으로 구분하여 조혜은의 시를 분석하였다. 조혜은의 시 속에서 ‘남편’은 ‘아내’라는 ‘존재 자체’를 열등하다고 비하 하고 조롱함으로써 가부장제라는 제도 안에서 ‘남편’이자 ‘가장’으로서 자 신의 자존감과 효능감을 확인한다. 개인적 차원에서 시적 화자는 원가족의 가난으로 인한 굴욕감에 시달리며 출산과 양육을 위해 다른 대안을 갖고 있지 않은 상황에서 어쩔 수 없이 가족 제도 안으로 걸어 들어간다. 남편이 지 속적인 모욕을 가하더라도 감내해야만이 가족 성원권을 인정받고 삶을 이 어나갈 수 있기에 점차 ‘온화한 유령’이 되어 간다. 한편 구조적인 차원에서 주목할 것은 남편 또한 노동 현장에서 자신이 인 간으로 취급되지 않는다는 점에서 고통받고 있다는 사실이다. 문제는 남편 이 굴욕감이라는 화폐를 차곡차곡 쌓아두었다가 가족 내에서 약자라고 할 수 있는 아내에게 고스란히 전가하고 있다는 점이다. 비인간적 노동현실은 남편을 구조적인 인식을 방해하고, 오히려 분노를 자기보다 더 약자인 아내 에게 전가할 수 있도록 만드는 자기합리화의 근거로 작동한다. 결과적으로 남편은 아내에게 모욕감과 굴욕감을 전가하고 유통시키는 발권자이자 매개 자의 역할을 한다. 시적 화자는 ‘몸이 마모되는 고통’ 속에서 온전히 혼자 감당해야 하는 자 녀 양육의 과업 때문에 고통받는다. 그러나 이런 현실에서 벗어나지 못하는 또 다른 이유는 자신이 이 집을 떠나면 아이는 엄마 없는 아이로 성장할 수 밖에 없기 때문이다. 달아나려는 꿈을 꾸어보기도 하지만 ‘이상적인 모성 성’에 대한 갈증, 아이에게 자신이 겪은 상처를 다시 경험하지 않게 하려는 다짐 때문에 결국 그녀는 ‘이방인’으로 소외당하더라도 가정에 남는 길을 선택한다. 결국 조혜은의 시적 화자가 경험하는 ‘모멸감’에는 남편의 조롱과 비하에 서 비롯되는 모욕감, 원가족의 가난한 현실에서 비롯되는 치유받지 못한 굴 욕감, 노동자를 비인간적으로 착취하는 노동 현장의 모순이 빚어내는 굴욕 의 정동이 ‘남편’을 거쳐 최종적으로 ‘아내’에게 전가되는 세 겹의 모멸감 이 겹쳐 있다고 할 수 있다. 시적 화자는 ‘이상적인 모성성’에 대한 열망과 분열 속에서 ‘이방인’으로 남아 이 모멸감을 견딘다. 『신부 수첩』은 2천 년 대 이후의 한국 문학에서 ‘다양한 차이를 종합적으로 사유하려는 더 진보된 인식이 역설적으로 여성을 무력화시키는 결과를 초래했다’는 평가에서 예 외의 지점에 위치한다. 무엇보다도 가정 내의 여성이 성원권을 인정받고, 이 상적인 엄마가 되기 위해 어떤 중층적인 모멸감의 구조 속에서 고통받아야 하는지를 생생하게 보여주는 시집이라고 할 수 있다.
