This study aims to introduce the status of the topic of self-compassion that has been actively conducted in various fields of psychology. To achieve this aim, we define self-compassion, and analyze and then summarize the component as well as the measurement method about self-compassion. Furthermore, through analyzing domestic and foreign research on self-compassion, we seek to find cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and environmental factors that have been considered relevant to self-compassion. Moreover, we discuss the research achievements that have reported the mediating and moderating role of self-compassion and summarize the structural relationships among variables. We also cast light upon the effects and role of self-compassion on interpersonal relationships and seek to understand self-compassion overall through analyzing research findings from counseling programs with self-compassion. Last, we discuss the significance and future direction of research as well as individual and collective counseling programs regarding self-compassion.

이 연구는 최근에 여러 심리학 분야에서 활발하게 연구되고 있는 주제인 자기자비의 연구 현황을 개관하고 추후 연구과제를 제안하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 자기자비에 대해 정의하고 자기자비의 구성 요소와 측정 방법에 대한 내용을 분석하고 정리하였다. 아울러 자기자비와 관련이 있다고 밝혀진 여러 가지 인지, 정서, 행동 및 사회환경적 변인들을 알아보았다. 이를 위해 자기자비가 매개 및 조절변인으로 기능한다고 보고된 연구들의 성과를 논하고 이들 변 인들 간의 구조적 관계를 요약하였다. 그리고 자기자비가 대인관계에 미치는 영향과 그 역할 에 대해 조명하였으며, 자기자비를 활용한 상담프로그램의 개발 과정과 효과를 분석하여 자 기자비를 전반적으로 파악하고자 하였다. 마지막으로 이러한 내용을 토대로 자기자비 관련 연구분야, 개인 및 집단상담에 시사하는 바와 추후 연구방향을 논의하였다.
