In this study, we investigated the survival and adaptation possibility of three non-native turtles, Trachemys scripta elegans, Pseudemys concinna and Mauremys sinensis, in Korea environment especially winter season. The status and body weight of individuals were periodically recorded in an artificially constructed pond located in the National Park Research Institute from October, 2014 to January 27, 2015. As a result, there was a change in the body weight of the three turtles. Increasing body weight was observed from T. s. elegans and P. concinna while M. sinensis showed decreasing. In addition, the movement of individuals during the study period was not observed and none of mortality occurred. Our results showed that the non-native turtles could survive during winter season in Korea. Moreover, the survival of M. sinensis, which are known not to hibernate, is an important consequence of how living things can adapt in new environment.

본 연구에서는 국내로 유입된 외래거북류 3종(붉은 귀거북 Trachemys scripta elegans, 리버쿠터 Pseudemys concinna, 중국줄무늬목거북 Mauremys sinensis)을 대상 으로 겨울철 생존 및 적응 가능성을 연구하였다. 2014년 12월 10월부터 2015년 1월 27일까지 국립공원연구원 내 에 인공 연못에서 관리되고 있는 외래거북들의 생존 여 부와 체중을 지속적으로 기록하였다. 연구 결과, 외래거 북들의 체중에 큰 변화는 없었지만, 붉은귀거북과 리버 쿠터는 체중의 증가, 중국줄무늬목거북은 체중의 감소 가 나타났다. 연구 기간 개체들의 이동은 거의 관찰되지 않았으며, 개체의 폐사는 발생하지 않았다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 국내로 유입된 외래거북들이 겨울철에도 충분히 생존할 수 있다는 가능성을 확인하였다. 게다가 동면하지 않는 것으로 알려진 중국줄무늬목거북의 생 존은 새로운 환경에서 생물이 어떻게 적응할 수 있는가 를 보여주는 중요한 결과이다.
