This paper deals with Chinese hard working culture based on Confucian work ethic which significantly contributed to China’s economic power. The hard working culture is what made China a great country in the pre-modern period as the Middle Kingdom. The Confucian virtues of hard work, frugality, collectivism, personal and business networks, and social harmony have helped transformed China to re-emerge once again as a great country. But we also have to be critical to these values since too much frugality and guanxi have been associated with greed, corruption, and patron-client relations, which may work to the detriment of the economy and society. Too much hard work can also be counter-productive as it leads to heavy stress, unhealthy lifestyles, dissatisfaction, and low productivity. The stress on loyalty between the employee and superior curtails once independence and creativity, which is critical to advancing in today’s competitive business environment. Therefore, gradual changes also have to be introduced in order to ensure the sustainability of the country’s overall productivity and continued growth while the discipline put forward by the Confucian work ethic paved the way for China’s economic success.

이 논문은 중국의 경제에 크게 기여한 유교적 노동 윤리에 기초한 중국의 열심히 일하는 문화를 다루고 있다. 일찍이 열심히 일하는 문화는 중국을 근대 이전 시대에 위대한 국가로 만들었다. 근면, 검소, 집산주의(集 産主義), 개인 및 비즈니스 네트워크, 사회적 조화에 대한 유교의 덕목은 중국이 다시 한번 위대한 나라로 다시 태어나는 데 도움이 되었다. 그러나 너무 지나친 검소와 꽌시(관계)가 탐욕, 부패 및 후원자-고객 관계와 관련 되어있어 경제와 사회에 해를 끼칠 수 있기 때문에 우리는 또한 이러한 가치에 비판적 이어야한다. 너무 지나친 노동의 과로는 스트레스, 건강에 해로운 생활 습관, 불만족, 낮은 생산성 등을 초래하기 때문에 역효과를 낼 수 있다. 직원과 상사 사이의 충성심에 대한 스트레스는 오늘날과 같은 경쟁적인 비즈니스 환경을 발전시키는 데 있어 중요한 독립성과 창의성을 저해할 수 있다.따 라서, 유교적 직업윤리에 의한 규율은 중국의 경제적 성공의 길을 닦은 면도 있으나, 중국의 전반적인 생산성과 지속적인 성장을 보장하기 위해 서는 점진적인 변화가 도입되어야 한다.
